Worth mentioning that the Sinhala kingdoms won most of their encounters with the Portuguese (see the Battle of Mulleriyawa, Battle of Randeniwala, Battle of Gannoruwa, Campaign of Danture). Sinhala attempts to capture the forts of Colombo and Kotte were however repulsed. The Kingdom of Sitawaka only collapsed after King Rajasinghe I was felled by a poisonous thorn. Also worth noting the British couldn't conquer the Kingdom of Kandy militarily, trying (and failing) twice. Instead they colluded with disgruntled and power-hungry Kandyan ministers to finally conquer the island.

British did not conqure the kingdom of Kandy militarily, in fact they tried and failed twice. But with a coup and a treaty with politicians back then they were able to get it .

We take huge pride in fighting against portugeese and british in battle and winning. Not a lot of other countries could say that... For some reason we liked the dutch, not much hostility is recorded from that time..

You haven't done much research.most important thing in the history of Sri Lanka is king DUTU GEMUNU was able to rule the entire country after conquering and chasing away all south Indian dynasties. And made a SRI Lanka a unitery state. He ruled all three kingdoms, RUHUNU, MAYA, and PEIHITY as a one kingdom and a one country.
