In the Star Wars universe, the confrontation between Count Dooku and the duo of Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi on Oba Diah is a significant event that showcases the strategic prowess and combat skills of Dooku. This duel occurs during the events of the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, specifically in Season 6, Episode 10 ("The Lost One"). To understand why Dooku was able to defeat Anakin and Obi-Wan, we must consider several factors, including Dooku's background, his mastery of the Force and lightsaber combat, and the circumstances of the battle.

Dooku's Background and Skills
Count Dooku, also known as Darth Tyranus, was a former Jedi Master who became disillusioned with the Jedi Order and left to join the Sith under Darth Sidious. His extensive training as a Jedi, combined with his Sith knowledge, made him a formidable opponent. Dooku's lightsaber style, Makashi (Form II), was specifically designed for lightsaber-to-lightsaber combat. It emphasized precision, efficiency, and economy of movement, making it highly effective against other Force users.

Additionally, Dooku was known for his tactical mind and strategic thinking. He often used psychological manipulation and deception to gain the upper hand in combat. His ability to remain calm and composed under pressure allowed him to exploit his opponents' weaknesses.

Anakin and Obi-Wan's Disadvantages
Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi were both exceptional Jedi Knights with their own strengths. However, their fighting styles and circumstances during the duel contributed to their defeat.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: Obi-Wan's lightsaber form, Soresu (Form III), was primarily defensive. While it made him highly resilient and difficult to defeat, it also meant that he relied on outlasting his opponent rather than overpowering them. Against a duelist of Dooku's caliber, Obi-Wan's defensive approach was less effective, especially when isolated.

Anakin Skywalker: Anakin's lightsaber form, Djem So (Form V), focused on strength and aggression. While this made him a powerful combatant, it also made him prone to emotional outbursts and reckless behavior. Dooku was adept at exploiting these weaknesses, often goading Anakin into making mistakes.

The Circumstances of the Battle
On Oba Diah, Anakin and Obi-Wan were investigating the disappearance of Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas, which led them to confront Dooku. The Sith Lord had the advantage of choosing the battleground, and he used the environment to his benefit.

Isolation: During the duel, Dooku managed to separate Anakin and Obi-Wan, preventing them from using their combined strength and coordination. By isolating them, he could handle each opponent individually, reducing the effectiveness of their teamwork.

Tactical Superiority: Dooku's experience and tactical knowledge allowed him to anticipate and counter the moves of both Jedi. He used his superior footwork and precision strikes to outmaneuver Obi-Wan and then turned his attention to Anakin.

Force Abilities: Dooku's mastery of the Force played a crucial role in the duel. He used Force pushes, lightning, and other abilities to destabilize and incapacitate his opponents. His proficiency in these techniques gave him a significant advantage over Anakin and Obi-Wan, who were less experienced in countering Sith powers.

Analysis of the Duel
During the duel, Dooku demonstrated his mastery over both physical combat and psychological manipulation. He taunted Anakin, exploiting his emotional vulnerabilities and pushing him into making reckless attacks. This strategy allowed Dooku to create openings and exploit Anakin's aggressive tendencies.

Obi-Wan's defensive stance, while effective against many opponents, was less so against Dooku's precise and calculated attacks. Dooku's knowledge of Obi-Wan's fighting style, from their previous encounters, gave him insights into how to break through his defenses.

Moreover, Dooku's ability to use the Force to his advantage further tipped the scales. He incapacitated Obi-Wan with a Force push, removing him from the fight temporarily and allowing Dooku to focus on Anakin. This divide-and-conquer approach was a textbook example of Dooku's strategic mindset.

Conclusion
Count Dooku's victory over Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi on Oba Diah was the result of his extensive training, superior lightsaber technique, strategic acumen, and mastery of the Force. His ability to isolate and exploit the weaknesses of his opponents, combined with his calm and calculated approach to combat, allowed him to defeat two of the Jedi Order's most skilled warriors. This confrontation highlighted the formidable threat Dooku posed as a Sith Lord and underscored the challenges faced by the Jedi during the Clone Wars.

This is one of my favourite fight scenes between the three, but I wish it was just Anakin who was fighting him

Prime dooku would have destroyed Anakin. Anakin is in his 20s and is having an extremely hard time fighting an elderly man, while obi wan is helping. Dooku is an absolute swordsman and completely skilled. I would love to see a showdown between prime Anakin and prime dooku.

Which is something they learned from it’s why they do better in revenge of the sith they start out with their main forms and change forms mid fight then go back to their normal forms it confuses dooku long enough for them to try and win I mean obi wan still gets taken out of the fight which was dookus main goal palpatine actually wanted dooku to kill obi wan he just couldn’t

Anyone else notice the moment where dooku is fighting obiwan head on and about to flip him? Anakin has a clear shot to cleave dooku in 2 and he just flourishes his sword instead like an idiot 😅
