My sister-in-law is awesome. Find out why, here. :-)

Find me elsewhere:-
I’m also on Ravelry as Mamaof2, although I’m not super active on there. 😊
We are a family of four, working hard to eat healthily, live frugally, pay off our mortgage early and save/invest for retirement. We’ve lived below the poverty line for many years and have now got our heads above that line. Our household income remains well below the national average in the UK but we have paid off all of our debt, including our mortgage.
It’s all hands on deck to save and invest for our retirement and for our children’s futures. We hope that we can put them in a position where they don’t have to struggle financially, as we have, and that we can break the generational cycle of poverty that we have experienced.
We all have different issues with food, including food sensitivities, so I shop to work around those considerations.
If you have found anything in this video useful, please give me a thumbs up and subscribe for more healthy eating and frugal living with a debt-free purpose 😊.

About 48 years ago I sent items from Okinawa Japan where I was in the military to my mom and ask her to hold onto them for me. She said she really liked them. I told her to just use them but someday I want them back. So when she died a few years ago that’s what I mainly took back. So I think of her when I use them. I can’t seem to throw away anything she touched. I have her old cookbook from the 1940s and her buttons she saved for mending. I make crafts from those. And a quilt her and her mother made together . I’m 66 and I just want to remember the good old days when it was simpler times.

I have a 1937 manual Singer sewing machine, still in working order. Which will be coming in very hand as the cost of electric is sky rocketing.

I really enjoyed your Jackanory story. It’s so nice that you say how much you appreciate your sister in law. We are currently going through the process of clearing my mother in laws house as she sadly recently died and it feels such a waste. However we are reusing as much as we can and it feels so nice as we know she would be happy we were getting use out of things. Although it is important not to fill our houses with a lot of things we don’t need just because we can’t face clearing them. I think we have found the right balance. Thanks for the lovely video.

We bought metal lawn furniture 35 years ago. It has been outside all of the years and is still in great shape.
I also have a wooden rocker that my grandmothers brother refinished and gave to my mother before I was born. My mother rocked me in it when I was a baby. I will be 60 in December.

From my grandma handmade quilts. From my grandmother a 1930's recipe book filled with her handwritten notations, aprons and her Rolling pin. From my Pa a wonderful garden hoe. The handle has broken many times. My father replaced it with a metal one this time. So far it's holding up wonderfully. And from my Ma her cast iron pans.

You can use oil to clean shower glass, taking out stains, scratches etc. I loved the outdoor furniture your sister renova. I have the hans beaters that I used as a child over 60 years ago. They are better than new ones. I also was given some cake times many years ago by my mother that will outlast me. Its the little things that remind us of our childhood and past times with family.

I love Genealogy, and learning family stories. I have a few things that were my parents, in laws, grandmother's and some Aunt's. I think of them when I see them. Love telling my grandchildren about the stories.

It’s wonderful that your sister in law is still using her parents garden furniture and could make them look new again with oil.

I love that you repurposed your mother in law’s garden rake after it wasn’t usable any longer.

I have a bunch of my parents garden tools, wood working tools and some kitchen gadgets and other items that I use all the time.

I have other items from my parents that I treasure and am proud to own.

My father was a carpenter and loved wood working. He made a wooden train set for each of us and I still have it.

I let my son play with it when he was little but now it’s packed away for when he has children.

My sister couldn’t have children but she displays her train set under her Christmas tree during the holidays. The rest of the year it’s on display in her curio cabinet.

My mom was a very good artist who loved to oil paint as well as do all types of crafts.

I have several of her paintings displayed in my home. She also made Christmas ornaments out of different materials over the years and I have a bunch of them. I have several that I made as a child too. I put them on my Christmas tree every year.

I just saw yesterday on fb that you can cook a chicken kiev in the oven or airfryer on top of a slice of bread which will soak up the garlic butter that comes out of it and it also crisps up so that you get a slice of garlic bread to go with it. Can't believe I never thought of that before, genius!

What a beautiful story and yes I remember Jackanory! We have blue milk glass dishes from my husband’s Nan, willow plates and bowls from a great aunt and a cabinet from a great uncle. Your sister has done a fab job with the garden set and no plastic in landfill 🙂👍🏻❤️

Fab story! Most of what I have from family is decorative, but I have the bowl that my great grandma made particular baked goods in, and my mum did the same, and now I do, too. At first I didn't make the same huge quantities that they did--5lbs of flour, etc--but now I do, because everyone loves them, lol. I treasure it more than you can imagine, and now my son does, too.

I am currently cleaning my great grandmother"s cast iron bakestone (Welsh version of a flat griddle) plus her 3 cast iron frying pans. They are over 100 years old. My daughter uses her great great grandmother's meat serving plate at Christmas and I have lots of china, too delicate for every day use, like my great great grandmother's wedding present (a tea service). I use my mother in law's egg slicer and her cake slice (she's 90 next month) plus I still use my own (and first) carbon steel Sebatier knife that's now almost 50 years old. I use my grandmother's Royal Vale tea cups regularly, complete with bread and butter plate and side plates and tea pot. We are a huge hand me down family, and my husband is sitting across from my next to the family grandfather clock which has been in the family since the late 1700's. My sister has my father's piano, which was the first piece of furniture he and my Mum bought for 83 guineas (the price is still on the back) and that's around 66 years old now. I could go on an on with fabric I've held on to from old curtains and projects that are now being put into use for younger generations. I think it's important to show younger family members their link to the past with these artefacts that have been passed down. My daughter, named after her great grandmother recently set up her first home and I gave her linen belonging to her and also hand embroidered pieces from my mother in law. She's shortly going to have a Welsh wool blanket owned by her paternal great grandmother, and my eldest has that same great grandparent's wicker shopping basket. They both have to be 80 plus years old . Finally, I have my Father's tuning fork, his fob watch and other pieces that bit by bit I am passing forward. Most recently I gave my nephew my Father's Zippo lighter I bought him over 30 years ago, and you can see the tarnish of his thumb print on the lighter. Thanks for sharing.
