Today we’re going to talk about how to increase your blood oxygen levels. When you breathe in, oxygen goes down to the lungs and is absorbed into the capillaries, exchanging oxygen for carbon dioxide.

As you breathe out, you’re getting rid of CO2, and when you breathe in, you’re getting oxygen. There are certain oxygen binding proteins in the red blood cells that are then carried around to the tissues and released.

When your oxygen is low in the blood, that’s called hypoxemia. There is a really simple test called a pulse oximeter that can measure the oxygen in your blood. It can also measure your pulse rate. A normal reading would be between 95 and 100. If you get below 92, there could be a problem.

A few causes of low oxygen in the blood:
• Post COVID-19
• Carbon monoxide
• High altitudes
• COPD
• Emphysema
• Asthma
• Bronchitis
• Pneumonia
• Sleep apnea

3 big symptoms of low oxygen in the blood:
1. Shortness of breath
2. Rapid breathing
3. Fast pulse rate

A few natural remedies to help increase your blood oxygen levels:
• Zinc
• Vitamin E (tocotrienols)
• Lipoic acid
• Vitamin D3
• Vitamin B12

You may want to take these one at a time to help identify what you’re deficient in.

1. Zinc (the most likely cause of low O2)
2. Vit E (tocotrienols: 50 x > tocopherols)
3. ALA / lipoic acid
4. Vitamin D3
5. Vitamin B12 ... Thanks Dr. Berg!

I usually have an o2 level of 97-99. Last time I saw my primary it was 87! After checking the battery level, using a different finger and a different hand, and another pulse oximeter, I was asked to remove my mask. Promptly rose to 97! Sometimes you don’t need supplements or medication.

You are in my opinion the go to man with everything health wise. I can count on one hand the number of times I've been to a doctor ( touch wood for minor trauma events ) in 70 years. I cannot thank you enough for your very detailed segments of information. Now, ,,if we could just get the remainder of Doctors in the world to follow your lead...my absolute gratitude.

I've been a respiratory therapist for 20 years and you pretty much got it right but people with COPD will usually have O2 sats below 89. And magnesium deficiency can cause shortness of breath as well.

What a coincidence! I've just bought an oximeter a couple of days ago. Luckily it shows 95 and above.

Thank so much. Just believed this video is meant for me. My oximeter meter reading is often between 85-87 at times it goes lower. I was think that the oximeter may not be functioning. So this week I tried on two other people and it was between 92-96. But with your short to the point video I am definite that my low reading is due to some of the deficiencies you mentioned. 3 years ago my husband passed away and the report indicates sleep apnea. Death nowadays is so near knocking the door. That is what I have learnt by the sudden death of my husband. No wonder my reading is low. It could surely be low level of zinc. I have decided to take zinc supplements. I hope my problem will be alleviated and share you the good news. if I don't see any improvement surely I will stretch out for help. thank you from Ethiopia.

Living at high altitudes also does. I used to have a O2 sat of 98% at sea level, it's 92 at 8, 500ft. But I tested the indigenous people, and they also have an O2 sat of 92, so I conclude it's the best you can do at altitude.

For anyone using a pulse-oximeter on a finger: relax your fingers. Rest your hand on a table, don't fold open your hand to make it easier to see the readout.
Learned this one during a hospital stay. I was trying to hold my hand in a position to make it more convenient for the nurse. Got a few double-takes before I figured that out.

Registered Respiratory Therapist here, while this provides beneficial information, it doesn't paint the whole picture There is a plethora of health issues that can cause shortness of breath. It's important to inform people that just because their O2 levels have dropped and they are air hungry, that relying solely on supplementation will not resolve all issues.
