Salt and pepper squid or as it can be called calamari, is one of the most asked for salt and pepper recipes we get asked for, so we thought it was about time we showed a salt and chilli squid recipe Mum really likes. This version uses a thicker batter, there are some variations that will use a dusting rather than a batter, if you'd like to see that version, comment and if enough people ask we will add it to the list of things to film. This recipe is really easy, like most takeout cooking its all in the preparation, everything after that takes minutes. We'd also really love to hear what dishes you'd like us to film, it helps us loads.

I had salt and chilli squid every night for about 2 years from a small Chinese takeaway in Wilmslow I watched them cook it fresh and to this day is one of my favourite dishes. Thank you for this

I love squid, local Chinese Restaurant used to have a good selection of squid dishes, but sadly now closed. None of the nearby takeaways seem to serve squid, so I think I'll give this recipe a try as it looks great. Mum certainly seemed to enjoy it, she was fair guzzling it down.

Very similar to the way I make it at home although I thrown in some schezwan pepper into it lol. love squid. Any thing with salt and black pepper is always great 😂

I love salt and pepper anything but especially ribs, I've never had carrot from my go to takeaway or any other I've ordered from but can see how it would work and add an extra crunch and sweetness, I'm a seafood lover and this looks bang on to me, wish you guys well in the upcoming golden chopsticks awards

As I think I said before we don’t have salt, and pepper Chinese dishes in NY.We do have squid in seafood dishes, it isn’t battered in anyway, and it’s so tough, you can never chew it, so I leave my squid eating to calamari eating, breaded with marinara sauce, nice and tender.With the way you cooked it I think it would be tender, if I can find the squid I would give that a go.

This made me laugh so much with your reaction to squid. Stopped eating squid for many years before I found out about using Bicarb. Night and day difference. How about a seafood curry. Shrimp, Cod, Squid, Clams...Sorry couldn't resist but I would love it. Cheers guys! Love your video's.

So great to see you both back! I seriously missed you, but completely understand that you've been super busy with the new restaurant.
As someone who grew up with wild caught squid, don't worry about the bicarb. Just soak it in some milk for an hour. Don't ask me why it works, but it does. Super tender. The one time I forgot to soak, super chewy.
What I do want to know is, do you score the inside or outside of the squid?
