Aidan, my advice to you is, stay in contact with your new WWA friends over the years and you'll have work for the rest of your life. Good luck young man.

38 years ago I got a job as a shop helper in a oem manufacturing shop. From sweeping floors and getting abused by
the seasoned vets, I held my own when it came to mouthing off and insults. In less than a month I was promoted to saw man. (Table saw cutting down full sized plastic sheets. When I wasn’t working the saw I went and learned how to grind, blend and grain stainless and then polish. I have a good knack for picking things up by watching out of the corner of my eyes. One quick lesson from an older TIG welder and I already knew how to read prints. I began tracking and prepping parts for the welders then doing the finish work. Slowly I began welding and within a year of starting I had my own welding station and was producing tanks, piping and sanitary piping among other things. Now nearing retirement, I’ve been a senior Millwright in a food processing plant for the past 30 years. As a Millwright, I install equipment, repair and maintain a facility of just under 1 million sq feet on two levels across four buildings. You will work on electrical, plumbing, compressors, carpentry, hvac, weld, run a mill and lathe. Basically you are a multi craft tradesman. I never made under 140k the past 10 years. Will be retiring early. Bottom line. Become multi craft and your value goes up

You only get what you put into it. Dont think for a second going to a welding school guarantees you a job.
Also, if you show up asking about a welding job, you best have all your gear with you. Ill make you take that qualification coupon right then and there

I'm looking to become a welder. What is the best way to get good fast and get noticed? Union, trade school, or find a job to just learn while gaining experience?
