This is the best trade to get in to. Good HVAC technicians are in class of there own. You are going to make good money because the service world is going to explode. I’m 51 and I keep telling young people there aren’t any more farm boys/girls. What I mean by that, is no one learns hand skills anymore, fixes things etc. That skill set will become coveted soon and your going be in the perfect spot to get the rewards.
Keep up the good work and always learn. If your not learning move companies. Your going to do fine.

I have two degrees, and two diplomas - the other diploma earned me an EMT license. The one that has served me best was my HVAC tech school diploma. I was already working at the time so, I was immediately able to put into practice what I was learning. It was a fantastic choice.

Just started watching your videos. I'm glad you jumped in right after high school. Reminded me of joining the US Navy after high school in 1971 and working on aircraft on an aircraft carrier at 19 years old. What an education that was. Most folks on the flight deck were 18 to 20 something & the pilots were about 22 give or take a year or two when they started flying. Good luck & enjoy life.

That humble attitude of just effort is so important. Nobody knows everything about any trade. Once you have fundamentals of power, refrigeration and gas there is no way else to learn than just getting experience

This is Great! As a mentor I try to encourage young men to seek great careers. I lived in South Texas, so HVAC is critical.

i’m in hvac without trade school, i feel that if you absolutely can’t find an apprenticeship and it’s the only option, also i feel it’s good for people that’s not a self starter, that doesn’t take the initiative to study themselves when they’re off of work, they will have the classroom time to study

Good stuff bro. I’m hitting my 2 year mark in the trade. Went to trade school for 6 months, they had me do a ride along for 2 weeks and had me doing on calls in the middle of the night right after. A good company will help you and won’t get upset for our first mistakes. It’s definitely different being on the field by yourself. Most things you learn in school, you’ll forget it when you’re out there especially during the summer when it’s hot. I’m from AZ and it gets 115. It’s good money. I’ve been wanting to start a channel as well so people can see how it is during the winter and how to make money. Is new guys have to stick together.

I been in the HVAC industry for 6 years. School only shows that you put in the effort on your own time which is good. However, the employer ultimately cares about your experience and what you can do in the field without supervision. Being a good tech is always the goal for yourself but to your employer it’s mostly about what you can do to bring the company more money and you’re gonna forget a lot of what your learned if the company doesn’t provide the opportunities to work on things you studied. I’ve seen many dudes that understand the theory but can’t apply it because they lack experience. You can learn this stuff without trade school. Apply as an apprentice and you’ll learn the things that are most common in the field which are the important things. Be comfortable knowing that you will never know everything in this forever evolving field.Good luck!

at the school i was at, the instructors kept saying that what we were learning had very little to do w/ the actual job of hvac, so i finished the first semester and got a job.

Thank you for your POV. So many in this trade on YouTube are on here saying you don’t need school it’s a waste of time, then go in to say people don’t last long in the field they don’t know anything and I’m pretty sure the no school needed guys have a way to belittle people for being know it alls and wanting top pay for their knowledge. So thank you for being humble and informative

Great perspective from a new technician! I myself did not go to trade school but we get paid for what we know, knowledge is power. Keep up the good work
