This is my process as a tech doing commercial hvac as a tradesman for studying and growth. Through this learning process I increased my ability to repair air conditioning system and now teaching others how to provide the same service.

Another hvacr videos to help show hvac troubleshooting. If you are considering joining the hvac trade I highly suggest getting hvac training from a trade school. Online hvac training videos only get you so far. From experience hvac school is the way to go. No matter what you call it HVAC, HVACR, Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, Chillers, Low Temp, High Temp, Mechanical, ect, we are all blue collar in this hvac life.

21 years in the field and it always comes full circle back to the basics.

Great advice, master one thing a time and keep a cheat sheet with formulas and notes. Never hesitate to call someone for help.

As an engineer I can say not only do you have a true engineering mindset, but you also understand chillers better that most of the guys specking equipment. I regularly come back to your videos for your insight and experience. Thx for your willingness to share and give back to the hvac community.

Awsome man, self taught, self motivated, its what it takes, now a day, entry level techs have people and resources, back in the day it was always a well kept tough nut to crack secret. What saved me? glad you asked, perserverence.
pardon the typo.

Great advice as always. I find as a apprentice with a major manufacturer, i get thrown around so much it is very hard to focus on certain study topics. One day i will be doing a PM on a chiller, then a start up on a YPAL, then changing media in evaporative cooling systems in data centers I almost wish they would stick me on something and let me get good at it lol

Thank you for the advice, I will definitely implement more studying and learning on one subject at a time on the systems that I most commonly see. I was beginning to get overwhelmed with not doing so well on working on or studying the things I needed to. Was very scattered but nobody is willing to train me near me so I have to train myself. Thanks again

This was very helpful! I appreiate the explanation on the beggining learning stages. Im entering the field with a late start at age 40 and no experience. I did recieve my license years ago but the school didnt really teach much and I was probably not taking it serious at the time. What advice do you think you can give someone like me entering the field at this point?

I love watching your videos, but honestly I think I’m going to get out of the hvac trade, no one wants to teach you, no one wants to give you a chance, and all they want to do is stick you on maintenance, honestly sometimes I feel like being in hvac was a mistake

Does anyone have a resource or link to help me get the refrigerants memorized? I haven't had much trouble with learning for the 608 universal until refrigerants. I am guessing I just have to brute force memorize each by name, if it is a CFC, HCFC, HFC, HFO or natural. Is there a list somewhere that shows the common in use refrigerants in use, the category it is in, the GWP of each etc? Getting this down really has me struggling. Some sample test questions I have seen ask about a refrigerant that wasn't mentioned in the study material.

You just made me very nervous. My employer is paying for me to get HVAC certified so that I can handle issues that come up in our building. You're making it sound like I'll need years of experience and study AFTER getting certified to be able to do that. It's not going to go over well if they pay for me to get certified and I'm not able to handle it without calling in people from outside.

Data Technician here and non of this makes sense to me and am slightly nervous about entering this field. Is it worth my time or do I have a chance ? What do y’all think ? Or would electrician apprenticeship be more up my alley ?
