I got the 14900K for $389 on Amazon. And it shreds 4K transcodes in my PLEX Server. It acts like nothing is going on when it transcodes. I haven’t had that level of performance with any other CPU. Granted I’m coming from the 11900k which is now being used with a 3080ti strictly for gaming. But my PLEX Server running Windows 11 is a beast now with the 14900K. It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for all this time. I’m sure it’s not the best option for gaming, but for PLEX with Windows 11? It’s a champ. Great video by the way. 😎👍

just bought the 14900k. was looking at 13900k but the difference was only $30 so i went with 14th gen. coming from a 9700k. definitely gonna see a difference

In my opinion increased performance with increased power consumption doesn’t count. I can overlock any chip with more voltage and get faster clocks and better performance. Improve your IPC and efficiency if you want me to care. Especially since the IHSs are becoming too small and it’s simply becoming impossible to transfer enough heat through them.

This is an outstanding review and is the first I've seen that helps me truly understand the 14900K compared to the 13900K and the 7950X. In the real-world performance section starting at around minute 6:00, what is the power consumption of the AMD 7950X in the multi-core tests like Cinebench R23? It's my understanding from this review the power consumption of the 14900K (with Intel Limits) is 253W for those benchmarks. From tests I've seen on the 7950X I believe it is drawing similar power when the 7950X is full-throttle on multi-core tests. If so, then this makes the 14900K cooling requirements about the same as 7950X with the Intel limits on for the 14900K. Is this an accurate takeaway? If so, then I see this as the 14900K possibly having a slight edge over the 7950X due to other advantages like stability with higher speed RAM.

We have been at the point of diminishing returns for a few years now but most reviewers are not using this term...they need to be. The gains are not worth the expense.

Your review is by far the best and most insightful review of 14900K! Your comparison of 14900K without limit and with Intel limits is really informative.
In light of your analysis, it seems 14900K seems to have been really well binned and can be made quite efficient and cool-running if you optimize LLC and AC/DC loadline in addition to enforcing Intel limits.

You should always undervolt these CPU's. Most Raptor Lake CPU's can do -0.1V undervolt, which drastically drops power use and temperatures. No idea why stock voltage is so high.

6.1GHz on all P cores + 4.5GHz all E-cores after Intel’s neural network AI optimization & a lot of bios voltage tweaking on my i9 14900k begs to differ… custom water loop on 2x 360mm rads. Under 320w cinebench/occt I’m maintaining 5.7ghz/4.5ghz for HOURS on end meaning massive performance over anything else. It’s a non-argument for those of us who like to push the limit. 💪💪
