So I Could use "gotta go wash my walls" as a valid excuse

A tip that I love is if you use a bit of apple cider vinegar in your cleaning mix used to wash walls, it helps remove any “natural” or not so natural odors from your house such as cat or dog smell, smoke smell or just any funk really.

It’s a great idea,
BUT here are my suggestions:
Noting, that the wall shown here was almost clean to start with…🤔
1.
If the wall is very dark because of dust, debris, webs, neglect… got the point,
use a ( larger) microfiber cloth or even a white pre washed white reusable cotton diaper/ cotton dishcloth or old multiple times washed towel to dust first.
You can also do this with the right attachment of a vacuum cleaner, like a brush.
Just get rid of the layers of dry dust.
2.
If there are large marks, like crayon, food, paint, etc try to use a light abrasive- like magic eraser or similar product, maybe scrub daddy.
( Be super careful if your paint or wall is colored dark or something significantly different than white, and you paint is not washable - as this can damage the paint color.)
3.
Before you try the dish soap and water- solution in a spray bottle,
I would go for warm water with a splash of alcohol in it mixed and sprayed on the surface.
Here is why:
Alcohol is disinfecting, but also evaporates, and doesn’t leave marks.
The dishwashing liquid option is only needed, if it’s not enough.
If you feel, you still need more cleaning power and want to go further, then step…
4.
Warm water, 1 drop of dish soap- and processing with the cleaning!
BUT DON’T FORGET TO USE AN
OTHER BOTTLE OR SEVERAL WARM WATER SPRAYS TO RINSE SLIGHTLY ABD CAREFULLY-
as the dish soap will leave a residue and attract more dust, and debris.
And then the whole process didn’t make any sense 🤷‍♀️
Regular wall dusting and cobweb checks are also a good idea…
At least monthly or 4 times a year.

Use trisodium phosphate. I have tried Dawn dish soap it works but not as good as TSP. You do have to rinse it but you would have to rinse detergent anyway. As I apply the TSP on a smoke soaked wall I just watched the brown liquid run down. And once it’s done it smells amazing. So it’s great for those have to deal with cigarette smokers. Good luck.

Rinse those walls after or you’ll have a thin layer of residue that’ll attract even more dust and dirt making wall day more often

I like the spray it on sideways tip thanks. Do you use hot or warm water? With small children I use Silk instead of Matt paint, easier to wipe stains off.

Wouldn’t putting dish soap on the wall make it very difficult for paint to stick down the road if you ever decide to change the color?
