I discovered this recently, and immediately requested PRO licenses for the whole team so we could all work on reports, instead of using SharePoint folders with no coauthoring. Now, working with published datasets in PBI Service, users can work simultaneously on reports with little to no issue. This has been revolutionary to us!

well... for complex queries probably it would be better to have it on powerBI desktop. Or complex data models.
But, if you have deployed a report via desktop and change it online, it would be better not to forget and update it also on desktop...

As a Mac user this is music to my ears :-) but as you say, in general having it cloud based makes so much sense in terms of management and ease of access. In my last job I enjoyed moving my datasets all into the service, so this is a great next step

It looks like a great improvement. The automatically saved changes with no going back is tricky though. You need to validate changes before touching a production environment. Instead of validating on desktop, you’ll need an additional test environment in PBI service.

Editing is fine and I think this is great. Unless I am mistaken you cannot create a dataset from anything other than Excel, csv or manually entering data. Until we can connect to Dataflows and all other data sources, Power BI Desktop will have a place methinks.

You have two main groups of Power BI developers. The ones with Power BI desktop and the ones with combinations of desktop, Tabular Editor and ALM toolkit. For pure Power BI desktop developers I think you are right. Tack för en bra video!

This is amazing news 😀
I too second with you on your guess. There is high possibility that we will see co-authors, version control features all coming in near future releases and Yes, once this gets fully implemented we can be platform independent 🙌👍

This is amazing, even with the limitations it has. I'm not always on Windows, and sometimes when I'm on the go the battery life of my "portable" workstation means that I have to be next to a power outlet.

I may be missing it but there are lots of things it can't do yet from within the query editor. Great step in the right direction and can make some amends to the report whilst being mobile.

The data model is created in Power Query - that relationship view is only a visual representation of it with the cardinality specified. Not really what I would call editing the data model from the dataset perspective. Sure you could setup dataflows or datamarts in the service, but that's still not the relationship view.

You scared me.... I love PBI desktop. I use it like Excel for quick analysis of smaller data sets that are too large for Excel.

It's an excellent feature for editing. But I could not see the data view.

Hi, Thanks for this video.
It is really great news. Any idea, how the gateways are handled when using on-premise data sources?

This is pretty major... any ideas on when we'll be able to use PowerQuery and edit the queries for each table from the service? (I know they already allow it for dataflows so surely shouldn't be too complicated)

I just studied and finished my first power BI Project and I see this lady posting by bye bye Power BI😒

This sounds like a game changer - can you also load data from different sources directly to the cloud now?

Does this mean that we are able to transform the data in the service as well?

Yep maybe for a quick emergency fix at the dev stage of a deployment pipeline, but if you are in business you need basic backups version control and verification, so it is a big nope, imagine auto save on a big very valuable dataset that deletes a table, link or just changes a formula incorrectly. Nightmare

This is really awesome so excited to use this all options like web 🎉

Thanks
