Does it matter which wire you connect if you have a "lighted" switch?

Also, how do you know what orientation to put your switch in. I.e. I have .. I think it is a Decora switch, and it does not say "off" or "on" on it ... so how do I know how to orient it relative to the box?

One thing that might be a small deal, but the switch does not really go back from the light to the breaker box, and it is, at least to a total amateur like me more understandable if you draw in the box where all of this is taking place.

Thank you so much for your video. I would SO APPRECIATE your help. I'm in a situation where I have to fix what someone screwed up. And I'm even worse at electric than I am with computers.😲 The wiring was done in the 50's. (Bathroom outlet) I can't find anything with this particular set up of wires. There's 1 red and 1 black. Here's where I'm lost. There is another red wire with the end stripped hanging free. My drunk, scary husband took it apart late last night. Now, after research and much trial and error I find that the only way to get the power back on in my room is to hook both the black and free red wire together. And the bathroom light must be on also now for power in my room. I'm petrified the house will burn down. I must have it done before he comes home. He definitely will not call an electrician. And I'm very afraid of talking to him. Thank you again. If you don't answer I understand.🌺✌
