I bought a 15 year old van.
Took out the seats and bought a twin mattress.
Sleeping bag. Hit the road, and I make it up every day as I go.
Best advice.
Just Do it.

Do you know that the day I bought my RV at the dealership and told the salesman I was leaving that day to drive RT 66, he actually told me he “hoped I had a gun with me.” What a vote of confidence! The day after buying the RV I started out. Returned home 6 weeks later. I learned a lot on the way. But FEAR a was never an issue…..I always play the “so what if?” Game. What if I have a flat tire? Okay then this will happen. What if I get lost, breakdown, get sick???? I go over the whole scenario until the end. It’s called life. I just live it.

When I moved into my SUV 3 over years ago, I had very little notice since I made the decision to leave my abusive wife and Beach House.
One of my favorite tools to help me live a safe and secure life is my good old Boy Scout Hand Book! It's full of tips and lessons on not only Living outdoors but Thriving in Life as well. I had no idea that the lessons learned in scouting would prove so valuable to me today. Knowledge is the Best Weapon to fight fear and with it, I'm quite Safe, Secure...
And so Very Happy!!!

Remember, the hardest move on any Journey is always The First Step...

After a day or two I was over my fear I'm 57 and my family thought I was crazy. 😆 🤣 😂 I'm 9 months into my vanlife and now they're saying you're smart. I'm happier than ever! I don't care what people say or think I'm living life According to what makes me happy! ❤️ 👍

Great information. Fear doesn’t keep you from dying. It keeps you from living 😊

That was me yesterday!
I finally made the decision yesterday to live in my van and to get out of this horrible apartment half circle. The management is the best that I’ve ever known. Although, apart from them, no.
I was terrified all day yesterday I couldn’t sleep last night. I was in turmoil after making this decision.
Today I’ve thought of a lot of good things. Like planet fitness: if you get the top plan, you can use everything 24/7, and PF are everywhere!
I thought about how tiny my kitchen is, and how just a few dishes are starting to overwhelm me (no room), and how I could cook outside and have all the elbow room I want!
I thought about how I wouldn’t need to stay stuck in some little (shoebox) apartment paying hundreds of dollars a month, just to slowly die.
I thought about all the people I could meet…. that’s exactly what I want…. I wanna “learn to love people as much as I love myself” Those are some of the most beautiful words I’ve ever heard. Thank you, Bob, for your videos of encouragement‼️👍🏼
I give glory to the God of creation, for you. 🙂

All the information you presented here has been what I've been thinking about. I'm a senior woman in a small car and 2 dogs. I've practiced sleeping in my car and while doing so, made copious notes on what needed to be better. I'm very close to being ready. I'm hoping by May I'll do my 1st solo trip with my dogs to the GC. Wish me luck. And maybe one day I'll see you on the road. 😊

I really appreciate this video. Fear is a real inhibitor. I lost my husband in 2020 we camped together for 40 years. Now at 76 I started setting up my sienna. I would be so much more comfortable if I had someone to caravan with. The idea of meet ups sounds perfect to get comfortable and make friends .

It’s better to move in silence, and achieve what you want to achieve in life without anyone knowing. Too many people and family members out here that will crush your ambitions and dreams in life. 💚💚💚

I'm still saving for van and emergency fund. Vans are so EXPENSIVE now.

Small steps is key. We sold our house and got a big camper, 34ft . We stayed in a camp ground that is year round for 500 per month, utilities included. Even doing that it is a step in the right direction.

Your points about natural disasters was spot on. I live in Florida, and every year we spend most of June buying hurricane supplies, packing up stuff we can just grab and go, and making evacuation plans for the season. It's tiring, and meanwhile we have to worry if we even have a house to come home to. It'd be GREAT to just start the van/rv, and get outta dodge, with our mobile home in tact. I've been wanting to live the rv life for a very long while. I travel quite a bit already, because I have a roaming spirit. I'm finally trying to conquer my fear, stop neing so attached to my "stuff", and start selling some of it off, packing up for a small storage unit, and gonna sell the house and get a rig. Thanks, Bob. You've been an enormous influence for the 8yrs of me dreaming about the nomadic lifestyle. Gonna actually do it now. ❤️

Great video! I have suffered anxiety driving more than 1/2 hour from my house by myself due to some past trauma I have really been working on this for years and I recently drove 2 hours by myself. I have never been so proud of myself for that. It has always been a reason I didn't think I could nomad life. Now I know I will be able to do it!

My reality is that at the age of 67, I’m losing my 10 yr affordable rental, I’m on SS & tired of working for 50 yrs. I’m preparing for Nomad life now. I did it 25 yrs ago for 2 yrs, but didn’t travel much. Missed my friends, town. Now all the friends have moved, town is becoming Aspen & I’m an excited scared to start this is April. The logistics scare me the most, but I’m trusting the Universe will bring it all together! 🎉❤

The thing about life is that the worst CAN happen. It happened for me one night in Oregon when my RV caught fire. Luckily, my dog woke me up and we got out with only each other, but i had exhausted my emergency stash by then. So the worst happens, but unless its the worst possible diagnosis, you will survive. The worst can also happen when youre sitting at home and a flood or hurricane blows through. No way insurance will cover everything. My point is that you can either cower in fear or go out there and experience life. I am 84 and prepping my tiny car for text camping. Yes, take reasonable precautions, but know that no matter where you are, ___ can hit the fan and you can deal with it.

Been in my van for 2 years now. It really is true freedom. My biggest suggestion is have a reserve fund for unexpected break downs. It does happen but you shouldn't fear it. The vanlife community is very friendly and many are very willing to help others in need if you find yourself struggling.

Winston Churchill said when asked what is success....to go from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm. When I decided just over 4 years ago to retire (58 at the time) sell the condo and get a Promaster Cargo Van, I was also really apprehensive. It was just so much easier and safer to continue doing what I was doing and earning a paycheck in the process. Long story short, I followed though because life is more than just work, work, bought the van, fixed it up and have now travelled the western side of the country from the west coast to TX and straight up to SD and ND and all the states in between. Every year do I travel a rectangular block starting in the south and ending in the south again. Best decision I've made in years. Not everything is fun and games for sure but at the very least do I feel that I'm getting some life out of life. We have the most wonderful parks and historical places to visit and visit again.
