Note: It has already been fixed, so no need for suggestions on what you think the cause might be! I will show you the SOJ sockets closer up in the next part too - didn't get to that clip when editing this part. It looks a lot tidier now than it did towards the end there. Incidentally, the floppy LED flashing is NOT diagnostic info (in this video) - it was getting past the POST (power on self test) from the BIOS, the flickering is related to a floppy interface issue, but it's not the Chips IC or just a bad connection.

Used to repair these things Amigas, Macs, PCs etc. to component level, you're making a proper meal of those SOJ chips.

The easiest way is to clean the solder from the pads with wick, clean the area off with flux remover, lay a bead of solder paste from one end of the pads to the other, position the chip and hit it with the hot air using the fine nozzle.

Amazing effort. What a great video! I can imagine fitting those sockets was a complete nightmare. Wish I tried fixing the A3010 I got from eBay but gave away the main board as it wasn’t working.

I know its not much fun for you but i enjoy your repairs that don't go to plan,
I'm always intrigued to see how you overcome the problem. Great work Chris.

There's a 4th part? Excellent! I admire your tenacity Gadge. Motivation is proper low, I wish I had the drive to continue with projects, but at the mo I just don't "feel" it. I wish I had your drive mate. Excellent work so far. Everything I have in mind while watching your vids is covered within the next sentence (would I socket that, would I bodge, and other stuff in that regard). Superb stuff as always. Respect.

I'll wait to watch Part 4, as I dunno when there will be a lull in decent content in my subscription feed lol.

I used to solder similar (square) J lead sockets at work a while back. To make the soldering easier we used to cut all the struts and remove the bottom of the socket.

If the RAM is upside-down, all the electrons are going to fall out.

Top video Chris. That pesky cat (Yoshi) nudge nudge wink wink. Don't beat yourself up Chris, We all still lift pads. I've been soldering since I was 14 I'm now 43 and i still lift pads to this day.
