Nagorno-Karabakh conflict: Ethnic-Armenian forces agree to Azerbaijan ceasefire - BBC News

A day after Azerbaijan's army launched an "anti-terror" offensive in Nagorno-Karabakh, ethnic-Armenian forces have agreed Russian terms for a ceasefire.

At least 25 people have been killed in the last 24 hours in attacks on the region.

Some 120,000 ethnic Armenians live in the South Caucasus enclave, recognised internationally as part of Azerbaijan.

Some 2,000 Russian peacekeepers were supposed to monitor the ceasefire but Moscow's interest in Armenia has waned during its war in Ukraine.

In 1978, the Armenians of Karabakh celebrated the 150th anniversary of their resettlement, and in honor of this a monument was erected in the village of Maragashen-Leninavan, Mardakert-Aghdara region.
The village is named after its first homeland - the Armenian village of Maragha in Iran.
Article XV of the Turkmenchay Treaty signed on February 10, 1828 between the Russian Empire and Qajar Empire provided for the resettlement of Armenians.
To organize the resettlement of Armenians in Nakhchivan and Erivan, a resettlement committee was established in 1829. The settlers were given great benefits: they were exempt from taxes and military service for 6 years, they were paid benefits at the expense of contributions received from Iran.
The monument in honor of the resettlement of the first Armenian families to Karabakh was destroyed by the Armenians in 1988 in the initial period of the Karabakh war, and then modified beyond recognition.

Karabakh is the indivisible region of Azerbaijan, Armenians occupied Azerbaijan's territory. 👍🙏 Azerbaijan pursued its rightful cause and now justice has been served.

I have never seen a nation that over estimated it's capabilities like Armenia did. There was a certain level of superiority feeling over the Azeris like the Azeris were untermenschen because of how the war ended in the 1990's. Azeris were trying on numerous occasions to peacefully integrate this province and return the other provinces neighboring it that Armenia occupied and expelled the Azeris from but Armenia refused each time. Even after the last war where Armenian leadership found out that it can't fight Azeris this time the Armenian people still refuse to believe it. There will be turmoil in Armenia for sure as a result of this where hardliners who promise the people the return of Nagorno Karabakh under Armenian control will try to topple the current government.

It is obvious that armenians have an enormous impact on BBC. First of all, armenians have never been permanent residents in KARABAKH inseparable part of Azerbaijan. They have continuously been settled in KARABAKH deliberately by russians in order to change the ethnicity in the region. Therefore it is unacceptable and unfair to say ethnic armenians. Secondly there is no phrase such as nagorno Karabakh. It is called Karabakh, so it would be better rely on accurate information.

For over a millennium, Nagorno-Karabakh, where ancient Armenian churches still stand, has been a cherished Armenian homeland. After World War I, there was a proposed independent Armenian state that included Nagorno-Karabakh in the Treaty of Sèvres, but it was never realized due to political factors. During the Soviet era, Nagorno-Karabakh was placed under Azerbaijani authority by both Lenin and Stalin for their political advantage.
