There’s a BEACH SCENE in LATVIA? | Train Ride to JURMALA 🇱🇻

Just a short train ride from Riga is the popular beach resort town of Jūrmala. Situated on the Gulf of Riga the beautiful white sand beaches stretch for over 20 miles & old wooden houses line the streets.

Jūrmala lies just a few miles outside of the capital and sprung up from a collection of small fishing villages lining the Gulf of Riga. Over the years it’s grown into a busy beach resort town where mainly Latvians come to enjoy the short summers.

I exited the train at Dubulti Railway Station and walked north towards the sea. On my way I stopped at Jurmala Dubulti Evangelical Lutheran Church and a few small shops. I continued on to the beach and photographed the crazy blend of sunlit golden beaches and angry looking dark stormy skies.

During Latvia’s communist years people from all across the Soviet Union came to Jūrmala for their holidays, including many high ranking and powerful officials. Since communism fell the resort continues to attract people from all across the Baltics who come to see the 20 mile stretch of white sand beaches and stay in the profusion of hotels, seaside villas and tiny beach front cabins.

Jūrmala isn’t just a extravagant beach resort though, it’s a place also noted for its nature trails, Lielupe River scene and old romantic wooden houses that form oldy-worldy neighbourhoods. Look out for the main pedestrian street running through town called Jomas Iela - it’s a treat to walk down!

My afternoon in Jūrmala was cut short by rain and I caught a train back to Riga a little earlier than expected. I got to see many of the attractions and walk along the golden sands so even though the day was a little shorter than expected I still had a good time.

That's wild! When I think of "Latvia" I don't think of "The Beach!" What a nice little town it's situated in!

Thank You for the nice video, sir. Glad You enjoyed Your stay in Latvia. I take every opportunity to go on bicycle from Riga to Jūrmala. Our see may seem quite cold. I love it.

Lovely. Looks a lot like Polish seaside. Have you been to Tricity? It's worth visiting

When you visit there or certain other place as well, perhaps it's covered in your previous videos archive, I'm wondering about the way you pay for things. Make money exchange before a trip, carry Euros or use Online Pay Apps for things that you've NOT prepaid or booked like a hotel?
Things unbookable or that you just decide to do because it's an opportunity that presents itself while you're there in that particular place.
Things such as a train ticket, a taxi, a ferry, a museum or other landmarks or structures fees, food/drink supplies, entertainment or souvenir?

Great video 🙏🙏🙏 we went there a few years back in January, a few places open, and a very snowy beach and the sea was frozen a few metres out, nice train trip though from Riga
