In the military, you must get along with your brothers and sisters. Sometimes these kinds of activities can lighten the mood and build morale back up. It's super important for everyone to have the same synergy when it comes to accomplishing the mission. It won't do any good if everyone is proficient but hate it each other or the synergy is off. I found out the hard way when I was deployed with my unit, we were good soldiers but didn't know each other or we didn't have that "team vibe" caused alot of issues for us in the end. Very smart for Maverick to do this.
