Use of Stem Cells - GCSE Biology

🦊 In this GCSE Biology video, we look at the significance and sources of embryonic stem cells in medical research and treatments. Embryonic stem cells have the potential to differentiate into any type of human cell, making them more versatile than adult stem cells. These cells can be harvested from the umbilical cord post-birth or from unused fertilised ova from in vitro fertilization (IVF). We then look at examples of stem cell applications, such as reversing paralysis by restoring neural pathways and treating diabetes by replacing insulin-producing cells in the pancreas.
