Thank you so much for this video! While I perfer canisters over uprights since canisters are easier for me. I don't mind uprights. I agree with everything you said, canisters are still a win for me!

I’ve always had an upright but as I’m getting older, it’s getting harder and harder to use. Thank goodness my husband broke my upright the other day, hence why I’m here! Thank you so so so very much for having made this video!

I’ve always preferred canisters and you can’t give a house a ceiling to floor/corner to corner cleaning without a canister but uprights are great for fast cleanups on rugs.

Just bought a Miele C3 Marin and never owned a canister before. So I do have to get used to using it but I love my new Miele so quite and grooms the carpet really nice!

I have loved vacuum cleaners since childhood. I love both, but I lean more towards an upright for my needs. When I was growing up, we had carpet and I got used to using uprights (Kirbys, Hoover Convertibles, Eureka F&G, etc.). I have mostly hard flooring, but I have large area rugs in just about every room. I wouldn't mind a good quality canister, but I have two Kirbys with attachments, a Royal all-metal upright, two Shop Vacs and a Dirt Devil hand vac.

I appreciate the information. I have only ever used upright vacuums but will look at canister vacuums the next time.

Thank you for the clarification. I am attempting to decided between a Sebo Airbelt D4 versus a Sebo Felix. This video has been extremely helpful! Thanks again.

This is an outstanding well thought out review! The pros and cons are well presented. I am most likely to buy a canister in the near future. Well done! Thank you very much!!

For me the decision was easy, since I have mostly wooden floors with area rugs and most of my furniture is elevated on legs, except my shoe box that goes to the floor. With an upright I'd be sweeping out from the back of most of my dressers and such. Not sure of the newer uprights but back in my day the hose too short and didn't allow me to reach the head valance on my vertical blinds. So for me it will always be a canister. I live in a building and they use a Hoover upright to run the length of our wall to wall carpeted hallways. For that use, the upright is perfect. Thanks for the video. I actually like Hoover, my mom's favorite, and probably would have been a loyal customer, however they don't make a canister on wheels. My gym uses a backpack style vacuum and I thought it might be good for a home.... that is until he turned to get under one of the machines the backpack canister hit the machine next to it. I imaged me wiping out all the pictures I have on top of our bureau so that decision left my mind completely.

Very informative. I've been obsessed with vacuums for over 30 years lol. But I always had uprights. I became concerned with how a vacuum affects indoor air quality after having an in-house demo of the Rainbow in early 90's. Too expensive then and now so I back then, I jumped on the cyclonic bagless upright bandwagon. I just got my first ever canister vacuum 2 weeks ago. So much more versatility!! So many more features!! So much easier to use!! Because of my air quality and air purification concerns, I opted for a water filtration canister vacuum. Not the $4K Rainbow but the Sirena. Love it and love canisters now.

I always used upright vacuums but, I fell in love with canisters when I tried a Miele C1 electro plus at NFM. I really like the Miele C1 but, do not mind splurging on a Sebo Aitbelt E3 or a Miele C3 Homecare plus with SEB 236.

Helpful, thorough review. Noted reference to Consumer Reports, which said that uprights clean carpets better because their design puts more weight on the brush roller, thus providing better cleaning. Not sure about that as the better vac manufacturers have remarked brush needs airflow at its housing to get dirt out of rug. Still, CU tests show Miele uprights outperforming Miele canisters on carpet.

I been thinking about getting a canister as seen they are better than the older ones these days. Plus canisters seem to get under furniture better than the upright ones and other hard to reach places.

I think a canister vacuum would be good for vacuuming cobwebs and other above-the-floor cleaning.

The Sebo Felix is nice because it is an upright, but you can carry to do the stairs or furniture.

I have a Panasonic bagless upright. Great suction when new (It's turning 8yrs old in 2022), but it clogs quickly. Small pebbles that get stuck in sneakers, cat litter just doesn't make it up the hose and into that sharp turn to fall down into the canister. I have to take it apart to clean out the lint buildup. Going to get a bagged canister vacuum.
