I would say it boils down to how much flat, open space you are vacuuming. If your house/business is mostly open space, then it makes sense to go with an upright. Uprights are pretty much built for that. But if your house has a lot of awkward spaces that you can't just push an upright through, then the upright loses most of its advantages, and you should go for the more agile canister+wand.

As always it still comes down to personal choice. Some of your points are valid, yet pushing more weight or not getting under something vs. pulling around a canister behind you to me is a pain. An example is the fact of the rechargeable popularity with no cord to pull or flip out of the way. Both uprite or cans are great cleaning tools, yet preference will always win out. Thanks.

I have both the miele s7 and c3 canister. The s7 upright is a heavy land yacht to vacuum 4, 000 sq ft of carpet. Pulling that canister around tripping over and getting hung around furniture is annoying so i use on stairs which is perfect. For the rest of the house i use the Riccar r40 or 8955 which actually pull making them easy to use. The s7 (u1) just sets in the closet

The miele upright is easy to push and pull around. It's brush roll and swivel head make it easy use. Also, if you lay the upright totally flat it would easily fit under that obstruction. The advantage of uprights is the added cleaning power from the weight on the carpet. Also, the wand in the upright makes it more convenient to do couches and curtains than the canister. This is a poor video.
