Actually from what I see. You do overwrite the element but the progress bar stays the same. Meaning the only thing that matters is what triggers the status ailment at the end

6:41 for any new players watching this, don’t listen to this part. Not only is this complete misinformation, it will drag down your combat if you follow what he says. Switching an element buildup does not “cancel” the other buildup. It just shows the new one building up but once you swap to the previous buildup you will continue where you left off. If you manage to reach the maximum of 2 buildups at the same time, you will get the disorder effect which does huge damage. This effect is so good there are even disorder teams built specifically for this effect.
