2021 Apple CarPlay Voice Texting Glitch - The 'Period' Dilemma

The recently updated Apple CarPlay has a punctuation problem - it doesn't recognize the word "period" as being the end of a sentence. It works just fine with other punctuation words, but "period" ends up being texted as the word.

12/30/22 update - the solution to this problem is to use "full stop" at the end of a sentence. It's an odd turn of language and makes no sense, but has worked reliably and allows me to voice text safely and much more accurately.

Bit late, but I notice you're using Siri with British voice. In the UK we dont say 'period' to end a sentence, we say 'full stop' or just 'stop'. Could this be the source of your issue? Try switching Siri to an American voice and see if the issue persists.

I have the same problem, and I just figured out what the solution is. I have the Irish voice as my Siri default, and the language, somehow in a system update, got sent to Irish. I reset it to US, English, and problem solved!

I’ve been waiting for someone to post something similar (or the same) to the issues I’m having with my CarPlay

I’ve had the same problem for several months now! Just today I figured a work around. You can go to settings and under text replacement put in the “.” As the phrase, and the word “period” as the short cut! The only glitch with this method is that you would likely never be able to say/dictate the actual word period because it will be replaced with a “.” BUT - I can certainly live with that.
