Check out the video example:

Going over some really simple ways to turn two notes into a cool bassline by diagnosing a drum beat count, and adding little techniques to make it GROOVE!

Check out a JHS Colour Box v2 to get that tone:

And of course the PODCAST:

A little about me:
Sean Daniel is a man. A man of simple needs and desires. And the one desire, no, the one NEED, that stands above all is to spread the challenges, joy and intellectual stimulus of music to people of Earth and beyond.
Born on the mean streets of upper middle class suburban Chicago, Sean learned the ways of the world through the dizzying heights of success to the lonesome depths of failure and emerged with the promise of a better tomorrow reflecting in his eyes and fiery passion in his belly.
He plays and teaches guitar on his YouTube channel where he regularly releases original music and projects to the adulation of legions of fans, who often compare him to Chris Pratt and one time Ryan Reynolds. He’s currently in the market for a nice leather jacket.

Doesn't matter how you dress, you get all the respect in the world if you can pull off one good groove! I would love more Bass content!

As i am immersing myself in your back log. I love how you tie back to fundamentala with out dragging it out. In this video you did this when you should the 5tb is tied to Major scale. Said it. Modeled it. Moved on . So good 😊

Great lesson! And I would tell everyone to note Sean's right hand position. Much less stress placed on the wrist the way Sean does it.

Thanks for this Sean! I got a bass hanging right next to me that I need to get a lot more comfortable with. Cheers!! 👍☺️✌️

Sean, the name for what you were calling the "muted note" or "percussive note" is usually called a "dead note" or a "ghost note". And yes, you can easily generate unintended harmonics if your muting technique is bad; usually people will rest two or even all four fingers on the string to prevent that from happening.

Hi Sean. When I retired at 61 four years ago I decided I want to learn guitar now I have the time to learn. Bought a second hand Acoustic guitar and learnt 9 Chords on the first 3 frets so I could play a few songs. Two years ago I bought a cheap electric guitar and still trying to work out how to play those same 9 chords higher up the neck. ( not doing too good at that ) Last year I bought a Bass guitar which I absolutely love. This video has been very good for my learning curve and I really enjoyed it. So, here is a question. Can you play 3 notes per string on a Bass guitar. ???

Hi Sean, as one of my four go-to guitar tutors on Youtube, I was wondering whether you are in a band and whether there is any accessible footage, here on Youtube or elsewhere, playing live. I also subscribe to Jens Larsen and there is footage of him playing live (and have to say that my main interest these days is jazz, though to be frank I like all guitar playing (even sodding folk music - it's the ethos I'm not too keen on). All the best, Patrick (Tony Other is just the Gmail name for a Gmail address to stop getting LOADs of spam).

When I learned one thing from grovin on the bass, then it is DON'T count - rather feel the rythm. Move your head and shoulders and really feel the kick drum and the snare and once you found yourself grovin to the beat it magically comes right out of your hands on the bass. Especially when you're a beginner, don't confuse yourself too much into beats, rythms and theory (even though that is important) but the greatest grove beasts of history often don't even know anything about beat or theory at all.

Just have fun and don't try to "over-snob" things just because some elitarian theory geeks tell you to. No offense to anybody except for the music nazis among you.
