The grayscale method has been a life saver for me because I struggle with color matching and finding the right shades. But since I color everything in gray, then use gradient maps and the adjustment settings after, my shading is much more accurate and realistic because I can focus on values instead of colors.

Wishing for Ross Draws and Sam Does Art collab someday.

It'll be interesting how these two colorful styles merge in one art. 😍

Thank you for taking us through this process in real time. You usually see all these adjustments and gyrations done in 10x time lapse mode, leaving far more questions than answers. You have done a public service here.

You constantly amaze me just how fast you get your drawings done. And now you do something the first time and still make it look easy. 😲

Doing grayscale, personally, helps in using value first.

I did color only at first, but the colors end up looking too jarring since I don't have value references/underpainting.
Plus, it greatly helps me in painting skin since there's a technique for this method: grisaille.

I find starting with grayscale gives more control, especially if you're not good with choosing colors. Starting with grayscale first is a hack for making sure your color values are correct because if your values look right in grayscale, your colors are guaranteed to have the right values when you apply them. Along with flipping periodically, if I start with color, I periodically turn the piece to grayscale to make sure the values read correctly. Honestly, it's best to keep an open mind, because one way isn't better than the other all the time. Sometimes if I start a piece in color, then turn it to grayscale when it's almost done, applying colors with the filters gives me a better result.

When I saw this drawing on your Instagram yesterday I was so shocked because this drawing is just so beautiful (in a different way than usual) I was really looking at it for a couple minutes and then saw that you first started out with grayscale. And it was kind of visible that something was different about this drawing than usual. As you said, it does have deeper colors and it also shows that you took more time to work on this piece, so I hope you don’t think that you have wasted your time on this one. 😄 As someone who usually takes at least 10 hours to complete a simple portrait and most of the time struggling to find the right colors, I think this method will speed up my workflow personally and I’m excited to try this out myself. So thank you very much for this amazing video it was her helpful and it would be awesome to see you try out some other methods too. 😄☺️

Because I was really bad at value, I start to draw from grey first. It's actually help me alot, and now as freelancer I use the method especially drawing for game background/environments.

When I started painting I actually loved using grey scale (in csp it is taking less time) because I wanted to understand light and shadow before focus on color. So it`s pretty useful I think! :)

The result is sooo pretty, wow! 😍😍😍😍 it makes a huge difference! And i think the greyscale method is best utilised when you start to add colour before you finish, like half and half ❤❤❤
