Communism historically has never worked.

My family were born in the former Yugoslavia which was a socialist/communist country. It was independent from the soviet bloc and quite a liberal country by comparison to other communist countries. Yugoslavia also had a good international reputation with the rest of the world and a brief period of peace and prosperity. The ideology of communism started to crumble once the highly charismatic President Josip Broz Tito passed away in 1980. 10 years later in 1990 the country dissolved via a decade long civil war caused by economic decline and reemergence of past interethnic tensions and ultranationalism that were previously suppressed by Tito.

The fact that there are only 5 communist countries remaining in the world. Tells you all you need to know, those being China, Vietnam, North Korea, Laos, Cuba.

I've wondered whether any of the leaders of communist countries actually believe their system is good for the people, as opposed to simply allowing the leadership to stay in control. I doubt there is anyone outside of North Korea (and perhaps no one even inside ti!) who believe Kim Jong Un has the welfare and happiness of the people in his country as his highest priority. Xi Jinping is becoming increasingly like a dictator, but he apparently believes "stability" is one of the main goals of his party (if not the only one)--with stability meaning there is no serious challenge to his power.

I recall having read back many years ago that one of Fidel Castro's fellow travelers essentially told him that "now that we are in power, we need to keep our promises to the people" to which Fidel answered "You're right!)--but then this other man found himself in prison a day or so later.

From what I read and heard over my seven decades of life has made me believe that the communists looks for oppressed and/or poor people to whom they make promises of a better life it they are put into a position of power--but then after the communists get into power, the promises fall completely to the wayside, and the people lose whatever freedom they used to have. There is a Chinese proverb about a man who sees a cold snake on the ground, and the snake asks the man to warm it up--the man does so, and the snake "rewards" the man by biting him fiercely, and just before the man dies, the snakes ridicules him for having trusted it! It seems to me the communists tend to work this way, although they leave out the ridiculing part.

It's worth noting that Western Europe is pretty secular, but doesn't have the problems China has.

I'm an Atheist but I don't subscribe to CCP's world view. And I'm a great supporter of regulated capitalism, and giving importance to human rights which includes to freedom to choose a religion or not to choose at all.

The real problem is greed, corruption and the lack of love and care for the fellow man. Its all self interest instead of the the growth of the species as a whole.

I think you're confusing instincts and emotions with some remote spiritual entity

yes, the spiritual aspect is necessary in order to live peaceful life. Consciousness is beyond science. metaphysical science tried to best understand Consciousness.

yes, one’s nature cannot be changed. it can only be held at bay, by focusing on other aspects of self. but one’s nature is perfect from start; it’s man’s society’s laws that is not perfect..

The point was a little vague but it's an interesting thought.
By "more than science", are you making the argument for miracles/magic/will of God etc, or things essentially impossible/impractical to measure like sentiment, relationships, human world complexities etc?

I guess the point was communism makes simplistic assumptions about human nature that are incompatible with reality? Or more specifically, a classless society is incompatible with the innate way values work for people - that we automatically evaluate our place in society and strive to make it higher, regardless of artificially imposed constraints? Might have to find the full interview.

Metaphorically, that Everyone has something to bring/offer to the Communal table, in disregarding this sociological dynamic only serves to dehumanise the natural process of Evolving ☂️
