Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, vice presidential candidate on the Democratic ticket with presidential candidate and U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, is holding a rally today, Tuesday, Sept. 17, in Asheville.
Walz opened his remarks by thanking the crowd of about 2,000 supporters gathered at Salvage Station and acknowledging that they could be somewhere else other than standing in the rain. He then drew a loud ovation as he wasted no time telling the crowd why Republican nominee, former president Donald Trump, must be defeated in November.
“Donald Trump has no plan for you,” Walz said. “He has no plan to improve your life. Kamala Harris has a plan for an opportunity economy.”
He then outlined some of Harris’ opportunity economy talking points, including helping middle class Americans buy homes, gain assistance with childcare and start small businesses. Walz also touched on the differences between what he and Harris call freedom as opposed to what that word means to Trump and his running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance.
Walz's event is the second major political rally in Asheville this year. Last month, former Republican President Donald Trump held a campaign event at Thomas Wolfe Auditorium. Trump is running for president against Harris.
Both vice presidential candidates have Georgia on their mind this week as Democratic nominee Gov. Tim Walz heads to Atlanta on his first solo campaign swing through Georgia a day after Republican candidate Sen. JD Vance's visit.
Walz will begin his visit to the Peach State with remarks at a political event in Macon on Tuesday morning before flying to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to participate in multiple events.
