Learn how to quickly and easily remove studs from an engine with using the two-nut trick! Studs do not have any ends for a wrench or ratchet to grab onto and using a plyers can damage the threads but this method will not damage the threads at all.

I remember seeing this technique for the first time and being on awe at how simple it was.

I always use wrench on the inner nut to unscrew stud and outer nut when screw stud back in. If you put wrench on outer nut when unscrewing than it might come loose by itself. Also you can use 3 nuts if there is enough room cuz sometimes 2 can spin right off the stud. Dad showed me this trick a long time ago.

Few things.. 1) thread the 2 nuts close to the base to prevent studs from snapping. 2) back stud out using the inner nut.

This is an amazingly useful trick!
If I may add one thing, when loosening the stud, turn the inside nut, not the outside one. If the stud is too tight, trying to loosen the outside nut often makes it just come off.

Don’t use the outside nut when removing because it can back off when the stud is stubborn. Use the inside one with your wrench when removing and the outside one when installing… that way your always compressing the two nuts together and they hold better

Loosen the stud using the other nut, the one closer to the block, otherwise you’re unloading the compressive force keeping the nuts together and they could separate. It’s not always the case but sometimes when using this technique things are a little iffy it can make the difference between success and failure

Little tip, if they are tight, wind the nuts all the way down to the head, less twist in the stud and less likely to snap

I thought you are going to use some specialty tool or something but you did it simple like it should be! Nice job!

Skrew the nut as close to the bottom you can having the nuts on the end makes it easy to snap especially if the stud is long

My dad taught me that trick when I was 6! It saved my ass on other stuff as well.

I just hook it onto my drill. It does the job and doesn’t damage the threads although if you are worried you can put some heetsink around them for extra protection

I never thought jam nuts would be a tip. Thought everyone knew about them.

I also always forget jam nuts though lol

This is a great tip that a lot of people don't know! One other suggestion though, if i may, is to wrench on the nut closest to your work. Sometimes the stud is so stuck, the outside nut will break free from the second nut. This is the same way a stud should be installed as well, unless you have threaded stud installers of course!
