Pokémon Nightmare Crystal is a difficulty side hack of Pokémon Crystal Legacy. CL, for short, was lead by myself to create an optimized version of Crystal that stayed true to the core of the original game. One of the lead playtesters, Aerogod223, set out to make his own side hack of CL, with the goal of changing it to make the fights as hard as possible. I think that Rocket Grunt with the Ditto & Smeargle team is a reference to Pikasprey. A YouTuber/Streamer that beat the Gen 1 & Gen 2 games using just Ditto and various other Pokemon games with a team of 6 Smeargles

I've never thought of playing a difficulty hack like Fire Emblem with perma death but with resetting. I like trying for deathless fights but I'm not good or patient enough to nuzlocke hard hacks from start to finish so this might be perfect for me, I'll have to try it. Thanks!

It completely skated by me that this was in the works. I loved CL and absolutely cant wait for emerald but im so happy to see that someone went through and cranked the difficulty up. Time to go beat my head against a new wall lol

I always liked the idea of rivals getting rare or unique pokemon before you to keep the player guessing

Same with them having more than 2 mons to start or a pokemon before they get a starter like hop.
