I rented both for one day before deciding which one to buy. It was an easy decision. I. bought the FX6. It’s so easy to use it allows me to get home with a lot of more quality footage on any given shoot. I’ve fallen in love with my FX6 and we’re still in the honeymoon phase ❤

The FX6 would be my dream setup, unfortunately I just can't swing it right now. The FX3 is much more affordable and once I built out a rig that I'm happy with, it cost me just as much as the body alone of the FX6 would have cost me. Plus, I only make YT videos, I dont work on set or don't do anything professional so I don't think I'd be able to justify that extra cost. Internal ND sounds like a dream, but IBIS is much more important for me, and it literally means I dont need a gimbal for what I do. Now that Shutter angle is coming to the FX3, I think I'm super happy in my decision to save a buck and go for the cheaper option. I think one day I would still love to get an FX6 v2 or maybe an FX9 but definitely not right now. They're all great cameras tho!

FX6 Owner who upgraded from the GH5.

I really like the FX6. I've been using it as a wedding cinema camera since it arrived. I had a massive commercial project last year, but the FX6 order was delayed. The GH5 held up.
The only gripe I have with the FX6 is that it needs a compressed 4K 10bit option, as you mentioned.

I believe Sony can update this in firmware.

Agree on all the points made in the video. I’ve been working on a tv show with my fx6 in full shoulder / tripod mount mode and found that to rig back and forth onto my gimbal took more time than I had given so have opted for the 3 for this purpose but since buying it really see the potential to use it for more B cam work than just a gimbal cam.

They are the same, the biggest decision factor is probably the IBIS in the FX3 (there is none in the FX6) versus the variable ND in the FX6 (there is none on the FX3). Above that the consideration of the weigh can be important, when using a lot of gimbal, the FX3 wins.

I’ve heard they’re working on adding shutter angle. I believe it was Armando that said he spoke to a Sony rep about it

Great Breakdown! I'm Team FX6, but both are powerful.

Until recently I would have said the FX6. But over the past year variable ND quality has improved so much. And it's so much easier to use a variable ND than separate NDs with or without a Matt box. I feel having the internal NDs isn't as much of a game changer as it used to be, and not worth the extra $2K-$3K. So I'll go with the FX3. SDI would be nice though

I'm a happy FX6 user and I agree that the image is slightly more natural than the FX3. The FX3 looks a bit more digital. But..the 12800 ISO on the FX3 is way more usable than the 12800 ISO in the FX6. Without Neat video, I can't use the shot. I'm I missing something? Noise reduction on the FX6 is on MID.

I don’t get it. If having 180 literally 2x your shutter, then what’s the problem? This is literally something you can take 5 seconds to adjust to.

I’ m all for time saving options don’t get
Me wrong, but this being a singular call-out doesn’t make sense.

Cool! Thankyou for this video. I'm gonna get the fx3 cause it's cheaper. But maybe the fx6 in the future for bigger productions.

You convinced me to go with FX6, especially when you mentioned renting the FX3 for B roll. I have a small production company and want to go all "in house."

Great points all around, not having 180 is insane. You can’t call it a real cinema camera without shutter angle

6:10 - XAVC-HS is compressed 10 bit. Watch out though it's H.265 so you'll need a newer computer like the m1 and m2 macs with a dedicated chip to edit these files smoothly!

Very informative thank you, though I'm still thinking about the bmcc 6kpro and Canon R5 C/C70. Documentary and short film is the goal.

I agree to you that the FX6 ist the more professional camera with its features and its look, but as a b-camera I bought the A7IV instead of the FX3 because of the better photo resolution, the sharper video image due to the 7k oversampling and the cheaper price. All the features that are missing at the A7IV compared to the FX3 I have one my FX6...

The FX6 with its ND build in and shutter angle is a no brainer.I would buy a FX3 as a B-cam but opted for the A7-4 wich also gives me the capability to shoot high resolution pics and save some money for other tools. If I’m not busy with video work the a7-4 pays the bills with photos.😊

I agree. I have both as well. The FX-3 is great for gimbal work and steady shots handheld. Other than that the FX-6 is better suited for all of my needs for corporate video production.

As a FX3 owner I can say: buy the SH2. And if you cant wait for it, take the S5IIx.
