In my experience i wouldn't sand the new edging the way you do, i would expect that to sand the entire banding as well as the sides. I always used a block and arrised the edges gently. But we all have our way of doing things. I used to use liquid white out to repair the small chips on the edges but there is a product that is designed for use on Melamine called Mend Paint and a little dab'll do ya! G'day Chris, thanks for this upload, I recently helped my son by doing some edge banding as I did in my own home years ago. I would have appreciated those two handy dandy edge tools though!
I used edge banding in a different way when someone asked me to make a sign for a factory. I chose a straight edge letter font and made a white letter out of black background and it is ok today three decades later I believe! A steel hole punch will work with it too allowing adhesve circles to be made - I needed to do that but such is my memory I cannot remember what I used them for! :)
Another use has been for jigs when an easy accurate slide is needed. You probably know and do all this and more anyhow but that is my experience.
I could never be bored by one of your videos Chris, liked the bit of fun at the end.

Check out Fastcap's Fastbreak, it'll sort out the edge sanding bit of the job without scratching up the face of the edge (if that makes any sense...)

Simple video, but just what I wanted to know. I don't work with melamine a lot, and usually when I do it's framed out, but I'm building a work table tonight, and have to band the edges, since a wood frame wouldn't be tolerant to the uses of the table.

If you want to edge band all around your piece (or at least 3 sides) do you do it with 1 single strip of edge band or you make 3 strips, one for each side ? Thank you

Did the edge already have a melamine cover? Does this method also work on bare particle board edges after cutting the melamine sheets?
