In this video, I will show you the steps that I take when applying Edge Banding. For this video, I wanted to share the technique that I use for applying edge banding. I use heat activated glue edge banding whenever I apply it to any of my plywood projects. The process is quite simple.

this is great, I was gonna fill it with drywall putty and paint it but now this edge bending technique is so tempting...

I was curious to ask as far as the temperature setting on the iron?
Also when standing down the edges like that what are we talking about for grit? 220?

Major thanks for many great videos! I have a lot of cabinets to build and I don't think I'd get anywhere without the help of your videos. Meanwhile, one edge-banding suggestion borrowed from someone named Stumpy: if the banding has any angled grain, only trim one side at a time and in the direction of the grain. It helps prevent the trimmer blade from digging in and tearing out the edge. I don't know how often that's likely to happen or what increases the risk other than the grain angle (poorly held trimmer??? a dull blade that grabs instead of cuts???) but overall I think it makes sense.

Birch plywood is very nice material indeed, and the edge banding looks excellent!

A good tip for you: Since the Iron heats both the veneer and the adhesive, it is best to cool them both with a damp cloth. After ironing the veneer down, simply wipe the veneer with a damp cloth to cool and set the adhesive. Any area that did not stick can be reheated to activate the glue and then cool it again with the damp cloth. Trust me, this is the way to go. Great channel. Keep up the great work!

I saw one video where a guy used a trim router to trim up edge banding. Seemed to get a good result.

Coincidentally, I needed to edge band a drawer that had been trimmed leaving the plywood showing. You didn't really show me anything I didn't already THINK I knew, but you confirmed the procedure and gave me confidence to go ahead. The job came out very nicely. Thank you.

In the cabinetry shop I work at, we flush the edge of the banding to the finished side of the plywood. Then we just take a file and get the overhang off that way. Never seen a edge band trimmer like that, it's really neat

Great video! Any suggestions if you were to edge band more than just the front? I'm interested in your technique for finishing a corner if both adjoining sides are edge banded.

Thank you for confirming in my mind how to do this. Someone at the company that makes the edge banding suggested to me to use a piece of parchment paper between the iron and the new edging piece in case you have anything burned onto your iron that might come off onto the new band as you iron it on. I thought that was a great suggestion, as irons often have burnt spray starch on them.

Do you have a video that shows how to make the edge banding corner joint seemlessly? Thanks

very thorough and thank you for no background music. Very well done 0:09

Use a cooling block. As you apply heat with the iron have a smooth hand block following behind pressing down and cooling the tape down faster. You get a much better bond with the plywood.

My table is 2 and quarter inch so how would I do edge banding? Do they make edge banding that thick or do I put 2 roles on

You should have done 2 sides and showed us how their common end looks like. Also how well does the edge banding last. What happens after 5 years.
