Energy, Geopolitics, And The New Map: A Book Talk With Daniel Yergin And Mark P. Mills

The shale revolution brought about not only an American competitive advantage in the global oil and gas market, but also an entirely new geopolitical dynamic. Energy is the bedrock of every industrial economy, and even minor shifts in production and prices have had resounding impacts on international diplomacy.

Today, the global energy landscape differs drastically from a decade ago. The U.S. now leads the world in oil production thanks to fracking, and the world is reacting. But even as Russia pivots to China, and Middle Eastern producers try to recalibrate, every oil-producing country faces the same questions about the future of energy: Will renewable energy reign? And how will international relationships fare with this new map? These issues will become even more controversial during the presidential campaigns.

Panelists:
Daniel Yergin, Author, Energy Expert, Economic Historian, Vice Chairman Of IHS Markit
Mark P. Mills, Senior Fellow, Manhattan Institute

Finally this one can write comments. Mr. Yergin please get a new laptop with improved audio and visual. All your Youtube videos for The New Map have disastrous sound and picture. Only this one is better.

We never hear arguments for controlling growth and waste. We only hear arguments for consumption.

In two years maybe eight people have listened to this discussion. The sad fact of life is that the primary premise is wrong. Max Planck, 100 years ago, when he described black body radiation, , very scientifically discussed CO2 and its contribution to warming and black body radiation. This isn’t Chinese arithmetic, we have the physics we know that this is crazy this whole idea that we’re going to upend the entire world economy over this is incredibly deranged.

Yergin's comment about wind and solar cost coming down is naive to the wind and solar's requirement for additional ancillary services that are not factored into that cost as well as diminishing capacity factors as wind turbines and solar get sited in marginally less productive locations.

Human Society has become addicted to two issues, Money and Energy. For both these needs the first step to be embraced is less consumerism. This strategy will automatically reduce the need for money; it also partly lessens the need for energy. Unlimited supply of energy is in the Earth´s core, but digging to that depth is unnecessary. Next practical approach is nuclear; the problem with nuclear, although its clean regarding emission, is the waste management and mining/refining the raw materials. Wind, solar biomass are supplementary to these techniques. The best solution is for humans to mitigate their desire for consumerism, the rest follows automatically. Agriculture needs be Bio-Diversity based
and every home owner should cultivate where ever they are allowed to do so.
