I’m conflicted on this- one one hand, it should have been out of reach. On the other hand, it’s completely possible it was, and the kid found a way. My first serious injury was climbing a cat condo at 2 years old to get some sort of spray, and I fell. I used to climb cabinets to get to stuff I couldn’t reach. I learned where things kept being moved. I even found out how to hide it. Kids are smart but also naive.

That's why some medicines got label as "Keep out of reach of children"

I have cbd gummies to help manage pain & anxiety, with the occasional thc chocolates (with approval of all my doctors on my care team) and my 5 year old is able to understand that they are special adult medicine candies that can make him sick. He'll actually put the bag away high in the medicine cabinet if it's on my table and people with kids come over. He also understands that alcohol is a grown up drink. I'm sure some kids won't listen, but my little, my teens, all their friends I helped raise.. They all understood with just explaining and reminding

Bruh. He clearly feels guilty enough. Let him go and be there for his daughter.

Yeah the “keep out of reach of kids” label doesn’t work. I know first hand because when I was a kid my mom put cough drops in a cabinet above our stove. I would literally climb on the counter and stand on pots to get some because I thought they tasted like candy. Kids will always find a way

At least the dad was man enough to admit it without hesitation. He could've risked his daughter's life to protect himself from trouble, but he didn't. Good dad in the end.

Dad should have 100% locked it up or put it super high up but not letting him go to the hospital for an accident is shitty :( I know it’s different but the guilt i’ve felt when my dog got to some of my weed is so upsetting (she was fine of course and yes we called the vet multiple times)

The main thing here is actually communication. The kid is old enough to understand what is ok and what is not. If he wasn't hiding it her parents would have been able to explain that they aren't normal candy and not to touch them, and they could have found the problem sooner if both knew about it

Her nice way of saying, “I want you out by the time we get back.”

I get that he could’ve locked his stuff up better, but not letting him go to the hospital is cruel

Its definitely the dads fault for not putting them away properly but its damn harsh to not even let him come to the hospital

This is why its good to not just tell kids that they shouldn't do something, but tell them EXACTLY why. It may give them nightmares or wtv, but that will get them not to do it. Nightmares are better than it happening in reality. No matter how young they are, I'd want my kid to be alive, safe, and highly warned, rather than Unhealthy, sick, maybe even not alive because i didn't warn them properly.

Teach children not to mess with shit. You can't hide anything perfectly. Kids are deviously clever.

The people immediately harping on edibles because they've been taught "Weed is evil" is insane. The problem isn't the fact he's using them, it's that he's being irresponsible and should keep things like that in a place the child can't access, in a container that's childproof

Also teaching children to have a healthy hesitance to not stuff whatever they see that looks like candy in their mouth is equally important. If she's downing half a bug of THC gummies what's stopping her from following someone offering candies with the intention of kidnapping her?

The dad did the right thing by admitting it right away. They were able to identify the drug and how much she had because he told them.
