This is great advice. My W and I had been together maybe a year when I got pulled over while we were going somewhere. Totally legit stop - I was +11 over the limit. Anyway - I pull way over onto the shoulder before the cop even put his lights on. I saw him pull out when we passed, so I knew what was about to happen. Which also meant I knew how to make it as painless as possible for the officer.
1. Rolled down my window
2. Got out license and registration
3. Put license and reg in my left hand
4. Put both hands on the wheel at 10 and 2 - so the first thing he sees when I come into view is my hands - void of weapons.

Sir, Do you know why I pulled you over?
Yes, I was speeding.
Can I have your license and registration?
I hand them over - note - this means I am not digging in my console or my glove box or anywhere else I might have a gun that he cannot see from his vantage point.
Goes back to his police car, sees that I have a good driving record and no warrants. Comes back and says, "Slow it down, and have a nice day."
Wife says: What the fuck just happened?
I shrugged: That's what usually happens. I wasn't going plus 25 or worse plus 30 - at plus 11-14 - that is the normal outcome. She was a skeptic for our first decade - but during that time she saw maybe 3 more of those and became a believer.

If I do get a ticket - I still say - have a nice day because they are just doing their job.
