Garlic will grow in Florida, but there are some tricks to getting the bulbs to grow to a full size. Here are some tips for getting a good garlic harvest in a warm climate.
Feel free to share with anyone who may find this information helpful!

Here are links for many of the products I use in my vegetable garden. Note that a lot of these items, like the fertilizers and the trays/saucers, have gotten much more expensive lately (like everything else). I shop around to find the best prices on the items and if I can't find something at a reasonable price then I will just do without or find a substitute):

In addition to the above fertilizers I occasionally use these seaweed and fish fertilizers to give my plants a boost of nutrients. I also use some of the seaweed fertilizer (half-strength) on my seedlings right after I transplant them (Note: I don’t use fertilizers with fish in them for seedlings):

The Following Organic Soil Amendments Add Trace Minerals To The Soil.

Thank you so much from another central Florida Gardner. Going to give garlic a try this year.

I thought you couldn't grow garlic at all in florida! I can't wait to give it a try next year. So happy I found this channel! Florida kicks an experienced gardener butt without good information about how different planting times are down here. I'm originally from zone6. My 2 first years of gardening down here was a comedy. 🤣

I'm in 9a but in a funky little pocket I think, right close to Alachua county. I just ordered soft neck garlic for Spring planting and will put in fridge when they arrive. This is my first garlic rodeo so i DEFINITELY appreciate this video. I have saved it to my faves. Thank you so much for all your good information !

I live on O`ahu, Hawai`i where it never gets as "cold" as Florida. I've found that garlic will tend to sprout in the refrigerator after a few weeks. So far my attempts at growing have started in the summer and after 4 months the tops dry and the bulbs are small. It's now January and I hope to get better results.

This is great, too happy I found you. I’m in Tampa Bay and tinkered with growing garlic last year, came out ‘eh nothing special but did grow, in certain I planted too early. I’m encouraged by your video and have started again! 🙂

Thank you for sharing - very informative! I’ve been wanting to learn how to grow garlic in FL, but have been hesitant bc I know it’s a process. Appreciate you breaking it down and explaining vernalization.

I’m central Florida as well 9b, I am so excited now to plant garlic( I didn’t think we could grow it here).. sadly I’ll have to wait til next year because it is now to late for me to vernalize them the appropriate time.

Excellent presentation. Thank you. I missed this year's opportunity, but I hope to use the information to grow garlic next year. I add garlic to a majority of my dinner meals, and hope to start fermenting garlic for the additional health benefits. The soil in suburban south Florida is so toxic it's difficult to grow anything, and what does grow is hardly organic no matter how careful you are. Nearly everyone here sprays their yards with pesticides and the runoff from rain is unavoidable. I will need to grow my garlic in raised planter beds.

Thank you so much! This is a wonderfully articulated guide and I am more confident with approaching growing garlic after understanding the basics. We are in the 9A zone, which I guess is really growing in population right now. Just want to try to grow some of our own food to stave off a bit of this inflation. So thank you for the tips. Fingers crossed for a good harvest next year 🤞🏼

Very good explanation. I just subscribed. I grew Salmon River Rambole and Pescadero Red. I had beautiful tops but my bulbs barely popped. I only did 8 wks. I didn't think to pop it in over 12 wks.

New Gardener here. Question. You said those garlic you grew last year, how did they not go bad? How do you freshly preserve so then they last long and you can sew them? Thank you
To add I absolutely love you content which is specific to my region. I appreciate all the information. I will look at all the monthly videos and make note to be prepare in advance. Thank you again.

It seems hard to find seed garlic. It sells out online quickly! thank you for all this information! It’s been challenging to find such details for growing garlic in Florida. You thankfully confirmed a lot of what I’ve learned but with lots of extra tidbits!

I love love the video, thanks for the advice for this novice gardener. I must ask where did you buy your garlic (online or which store) and how did you do to keep it fresh after one year?

I believe that Pescadoro Red is one of the Creole Garlics. But reading about different people's experience with Creole garlics, vernalization seems to help with some of them (ex. Ajo Rojo). I want to try the *Cuban Purple* Creole garlic! If Cuba has an heirloom garlic, that would be the one to go with, the most likely to succeed where it's hot, right? But Cuba has mountains, I believe. Not sure if they are tall enough to make a cooler climate up there, but I guess we'll see, if we ever get the opportunity to try.
