You are correct. Long oil change intervals are not designed to make your engine last, it's about keeping your engine running just long enough for the warranty to run out. The EPA doesn't want your evil internal combustion engine to last. They want you in an EV asap. Yes, motor oil has advanced a long way but there is something called oil dilution and no matter how great your oil is, dilution is still an issue.

Nice optimism but as someone pushing 50 and way too into cars sometimes you just get lemons. At this point in my life I’ll only swear by JDMs and well maintained classics. The ones I had or still have that weren’t problems only ever required basic maintenance, so your advice is sound. Might get a mid to late 2000s 350z or the like in a year or so but I’m plenty happy with what I have atm. Good luck on your channel.
