To piggyback onto what another poster said, as an electrician, i would never enter an inderminate underground vault without Cat 4 PPE on. You have no idea what's down there and if it's live or not. Just because it looks old and cruddy doesn't mean the juice isn't flowing. Also if youre going to do this kind of thing you should get some gmrs 2 way radios and have a buddy on the surface with the other one as I guarantee youre not getting reception down there in a concrete bunker. Even thats spotty but it's better than nothing.

As one who works in those types of tunnels for a living. I would recommend carrying an oxygen monitor with you, because gasses can build up in those tunnels.

As an internet troll with no credentials, I would like to point out that 24 Parts per million of H2s gas will kill you. This gas is frequently found in tanks, voids and piping systems. A SAR SCBA would not have been a bad idea, even after the GFE certified the space has free and ensured proper oxygen levels.

Never understood people going into these places without some sort of gear. They just go straight in with the clothes they're wearing. If I did this I'd be gearing up with a geiger counter, gas meter, gas mask, handgun, medkits. You would think I was getting ready to explore chernobyl. Not saying real life is a horror game with monsters everywhere, but the threat of radiation, C02 gas, and real world animals wandering into there are all still real life possibilities that could get you hurt or even killed while exploring

There is a reason you don't see hot steam pipes, sewage lines, and high voltage cables running down the hallways and stairs. If you work in the trades, you'll crawl through shit like this regularly. They should have O2 sensors on them. We pump air down there first. Get much below 20%, and you've got yourself a situation.
