What about a ryzen 5000 series coupled w/ an RTX 3000 series? Is an Intel w/ quick sync better than this???

I have a ryzen 5800, 10 TB RAID 1, and an nvidia rtx 3080 running on windows 10. I'm having very inconsistent results with direct play and direct stream, e.g., lagging, crashing, buffering. My clients are chromecast w/ Google TV, android, and roku tv.

I was hoping you would talk about hardware acceleration with GPU. Did you have to download any special drivers for you GPU? What are your transcoding settings?

this might be cool, right now i run my server off a Raspberry Pi 4 model b, which is not the greatest... its a little slow, i already have a spare cpu and motherboard from my old pc (if they still work) and have a stick of 8gb ram, also the old case, dont know how many drive bays it has but it will be a good start, also have my old gpu, a GTX 1070, but i dont know if a gpu is even useful with plex, dont know if you can confirm that or not, so i would just need a power supply, HDD's and an m.2 SSD right?

After the hard drive, the best investment would be a cpu with more cores. If you can manage it well, even a milk crate would do. I understand the need to have a good case but there's plenty of decent cases for decent money.

For your motherboard, did you have to buy an extra slot to use the SSD? I see where you attached it in the video, but on the motherboard I ordered, that slot is not there. I did use the link that is in the description. Everything lines up except for the SSD M.2 Slot

Great video, what are your thoughts on hardware transcoding with Plex? I feel like its the best bang for your buck when it comes to sharing with others and supporting many transcodes without having to buy a powerful dual xeon setup. Thanks for the content, sir! Subscribed.

I went with a Corsair 750D Airflow edition case. Bought 4 extra drive cages from Corsairs website for $50 after shipping. Puts the price near $200 but still reasonable. This puts the total internal 3.5" drive space at 18 total. I then added a 4 bay hotswap enclosure to the 5.25" external expansion bays for 22 total drives. I'm currently using 13 of those slots.

This is more space than even a lot of lower to mid level rack mount hardware, it also lets you avoid those tiny noisey ass fans.

Just thought I'd pass on what I researched if you need tons of hard drive space. I spent a couple weeks going over all the options I could find.

I have some hardware (i7 6800K, X99 Mobo, and a16GB DDR4 ram) and thinking to build a windows 10 Plex server for fast Transcoding. Is it worth moving from Synology 1815+ to this?
