Thanks for these videos, and breaking everything down so clearly. I'm currently running a dual xeon x5650 server and while we haven't hit bottlenecks with transcodes often, that thing makes my office too hot with no AC in the summer. After watching these I'm going to drop a P2000 (already ordered) into the server and then likely migrate to a new lower TDP based build in the future.

Thanks again, I really appreciate clear and concise videos like this!
As a side note, I would really be interested in linux performance comparisons on the same hardware. I am currently running on Windows Server 2012 but would like to move to linux for the next build.

I love your stuff, Sloth. This is exactly what I was looking for my man. Hope you're well and look forward to more content! Take care!

I've been looking for some HW transcoding reviews for a long time! Thanks for the review. I have a 6 year old i5 4670k plex server that I have overclocked to squeeze more performance, but that was only a small upgrade (1 extra transcode). This might be my next upgrade to push this system into 5 more years of service. (Internet is the current bottleneck with comcast 15mbps upload)
Keep up the great work, love the content!

Just found your channel, just built a plex server with 7 yr old CPU and MB
MB is - ASUSTeK COMPUTER P8H77-V LE, LGA 1155
CPU is - Intel Core i5-3470 (3.2Ghz)
so far storage is 2 x 3TB WD Red Nas and a 2GB WD Green, runs like a Windows 7 :-)
Love the vid and you got a subscriber :-)

VERY relevant information for those, like me, who are media whores. You took your research a few steps further than I would have. I'm running an almost 11-year old XEON workstation that I built primarily for Photoshop, but have utilized the PROC for MKV conversion.. I built a dedicated Plex server two years ago with a Z170 MB paired with a Pentium G4400 and 16GB of RAM. The library is 99% SD, but I'm about to migrate to much more HD content. My current limitation is disk space . . . . the 8TB mirror is not quite enough. You've given me some things to consider when offering much more HD content to my friends and family. THANK YOU!

Great video. I am getting close to considering replacing my GTX 650 video card in my Core i7 3770k to this.

Another great video, I've got a line on a $50 used Dell T5500 and I'm thinking of jamming a P2000 in it. Seems like it will give me plenty of capability for my 6-10 user Plex Server...

Do you run your Plex Server(s) in Windows or Linux? Direct on the machine or in a VM?

Exellent video.
Looking forward to see what the channel will do in the future. :-)

Excellent video. Subscribed. Would love to see more on this topic. Eg hardware transcodes on Intel (eg G5400 or some low spec Quicksync CPU) vs AMD Ryzen 2200G. Wondering which cheap CPU does best. Doubt many of us need to stream 20 streams (or have the upload bandwidth to do so!!)

Great video. Any idea how this stack up with the GTX 1060?

Few questions: 1. In 2021, are these any good in 2021? and 2. Would these make good servers for Virtualizing/Containerizing processes with TrueNas or ProxMox and would i need to upgrade anything?

Could you PLEASE do a build guide or list a recommendation for a non budget PMS (maybe sky's the limit and than a little more reasonable)? Something with high power (handle 4K and 1080p h.265) but lower running costs like you show here with the P2000. There are tons of budget Plex server build videos and recommendations out there but so few for reasonable or high end. I was thinking of building an Unraid Server (?) with a used Dual Xeon mobo and procs with lots of ram in a full tower. Now that I've seen this and the other P2000 video of yours, I am wondering if it would be better to go with an i7 proc on desktop board with a decent amount of RAM keeping the operating costs down. Thanks in advance!!!
