Gopro Hero 5 | Worth it in 2023 or Not

Is it worth it to buy a #Gopro #Hero5 in 2022 or should you just look at the #Hero7 upwards.

I looked around and after much consideration i went for the hero 5 black, spent a week or so testing it out for what I intend to use it for that is mountain biking.

I did various tests and i came up with the following settings that seem to work well.

Resolution 2-7K '30FPS in superview, flat profile in protune, kelvin scale for WB, ISO at 400, auto shutter speed, EV comp adjusted for the conditions, sharp low and audio high.
I use those settings for on bike footage taken from a chest mount, however for "B" roll stuff where I wanna slow it down i use 1080p @240 FPS in wide view. I did some tests adding this to a 2-7K timeline in my editor and i slowed it down and speed ramped it down to 25% and it works brilliantly!!

I turn off GPS and I do not pair it with my phone, I have LEDs all off, i do use voice commands, auto off is set to never, screensaver is turned off, video format is set to NTSC (despite being in a PAL region)

I colour correct using DaVinci resolve and it works great. I shot in 2-7K but downsampled it to 1080p on the video output and it looks just great!!

In my opinion most of the problems surrounding these action cameras arise from improper use. Most people want to shoot at 4/5 K with a high FPS with very little proper ventilation. for extended amounts of time
DO NOT DO THIS!!!!
If you purchase this camera make sure you buy a PROPER SD CARD i use a Sandisk 128 GbV30 u3 A2 and i have no issues with freezing or overheating at all.
I also purchased a couple of extra batteries complete with a charger via USB (Artman from amazon)

Do not use this for talking heads vlogging at 4K and the highest FPS it will overheat !!
I thoroughly recommend this camera i got mine down at MPB in the UK great value at around £150 i bought a chest mount and mounting case and it all works perfectly

Nice comparison! I bought mine in 2016 and it still works great. I plan on using it until it dies as I don’t have the money to upgrade every year but the picture quality is amazing on this camera. You can take some very clear photos

I feel i have to correct the OP here regarding sound. He was correct in saying that the video is excellent and I find the onboard sound to be adequate for commentary whilst riding a bike, however if you are looking to add professional sound quality to a video then you should be recording through an external recorder this is true for all recording be it a gopro or a high end camera.

Sure it is worth it. If you have a working GP5 black, Could you send me the sequence to turn on the front display thorugh front display menus (pressing mode key, then shutter key, then reslease mode key) ?. Mine is off so I need some one with a working GP5 to send me sequence to do it blindly., Many thanks
