GoPro HERO5 BLACK FPV Test.

Показать описание
This is my side by side comparison of the new GoPro HERO5 Black with the old HERO4 Black. For what its worth, I strapped both on a quad to get some test footage; here are my initial reactions.
Pros & Cons:
• HERO5 Black 240fps is killer! but comes at a price; reduced image quality, only 720p, and NARROW FOV.. makes it good for close up SloMo shots, but freaking ugly from the air, where the narrow frame crops out all the landscape stuff were used to seeing from an FPV video. So I would still opt for 1080p 120fps for most aerial shots.
* HERO5 Black has a nicer dynamic range and crispier image than HERO4 Black; whether or not thats worth the extra 30g to the average FPV pilot: probably not. In the test footage below, both footages are shot in ProTune / Color Profile : FLAT , ISO1600 and AUTO color temp... then graded using a deLUT for BlackMagic LOG.
• The image stabilization in HERO5 Black crops the image by 10%.. still if you're in SuperView, not a big deal. Upon limited testing of the stabilization on HERO5, I don't think I'd use it, and I dont like it... if you're using a handheld gimbal or have a poorly tuned quad, maybe it makes sense.
* Oh, and of course HERO5 Black is 30g heavier than HERO4 Black. That includes built in waterproof housing, which is of course external on the the HERO4.
• Is it worth the money? now that the HERO4 Black is dropped to $349 USD, is lighter, and still does 1080p 120fps, that seems like the best value for high quality FPV... although I will assume most people who want a GoPro for FPV will best be served by the HERO5 SESSION.
