Before we start, you need to know that there are two forms of cashback.
Direct cashback - It means whatever cashback you receive, it will offset your next month's bill. For example, If you spend $100 in November, the bank gives me 3% cashback of $3. This $3 will be used to offset my bill in December. Examples of such cards: are the UOB Absolute Cashback Card and Standard Chartered Unlimited Cashback Card,
Cash rebate - It means whatever cash rebate you receive, it is stored IN YOUR credit card account until you decide to use it to offset further purchases. For example, if you spend $100 and receive a 3% cash rebate and keep doing this for 1 year, you'll accumulate $36 in your credit card account. For your next purchase, instead of charging to my credit card, you can tell the merchant to use the $36 in my credit card instead. Examples of such cards are your POSB Everyday Card or Standard Chartered Smart Credit Card
