I enjoy the stories in the comments. I used to do a solo act, inspired by Neil and played several of his tunes. One night I did Old Man and after, a dude walks up to me and says, "We all really enjoyed that but you didn't play it right. Sound great man." I was young and so I got a little miffed by his remark that I didnt play the song correctly. I had been performing Old Man since I was 13 when the song was still new. So I did some research and sure enough, I wasn't playing it right. In the second half of each verse, Neil plays F C F G. For some reason I had always repeated the D F C F chords. It sounds fine like that but it isn't right. So thanks to the dude who corrected me. Keep on Rockin friends!

I was thinking about these 2 very different people meeting. Neil Young, a long haired young Canadian and an old American ranch foreman. Age difference maybe 40 years, and cultural difference vast. I thought about Neil Young reflecting on that meeting afterwards and wondering what, if anything, they had in common. And then this song. We all need someone to love us the whole day through. Just one look in my eyes and you can tell that’s true.
