People in urban areas will be totally dependent on the government for everything. Those who leave the cities for rural areas won't survive without taking from others in some way. They may come with fancy gadgets and hi-tec crap but ultimately, they won't be able to hack it. Poor planning, insufficient effort, lack of knowledge will be their downfall or some combination of these..

I think a small acreage in the burbs is the sweet spot, well depending on which burbs they are. Some suburbs are just as big as noisy as the city but small towns got just the right amount of space, peace and freedom, while still having a sense of community and convenience. Can still have livestock and your own water source but just far enough away that you can't have a pizza delivered...
