Joel Osteen is nothing more than a glorified motivational speaker.

Only the Almighty can speak things into existence.

"Speaking over your life" sounds like "manifestation" but with extra steps.

Only God can speak anything into existence.

"Words are the weakest thing when it comes to actually manifesting reality."
Absolutely.

i used to be into the new age manifestations stuff. like SUPER into it, i “practiced” the law of assumption and followed Neville Goddard’s teachings to the point were I messed up my life quite a bit. so when i became Christian last year I was so shocked by how many professing Christians sound exactly like New Agers and somehow think it’s biblical.

Neville twists the scripture, just like Joel Osteen, but he was much more honest about being a mystic.

Years ago, I took a certification test for a job I had. I needed to be certified and had 3 years to accomplish that, or they would let me go. I told some people in my church I was going to take the test. When I returned the following week, someone asked, “Well, did you pass?” I hadn’t, so I said, “No, I failed it.” She said, No! You passed in the name of Jesus!” A thousand times NO! The name of Jesus is not a magic word to declare success where your skill levels are not yet up to par. He’s not going to override the results of the test to give you a passing grade just because someone speaks words into the universe and declares it. Her declaration DID NOT come to pass.

I agree, what ever happened to praying God’s will?

I had a woman berate me once for saying a dessert was "to die for". She said i was "speaking death" over my life. 😂. I told her its just an expression and to get over it.

Brother Mike Winger, please continue to keep the faith and deliver balanced views of the scriptures as you have been doing for years. As a fellow minister you’ve blessed me immensely.

The spirit in which you correct falsehood is so gracious but yet stern/firm. Being in the Pentecostal circle but with a reformed mind, I’ve learned from you to correct wrong thinking/teaching in such a way.

As the scripture says let your speech be with Grace seasoned with salt. Brother, through your channel, you live out that scripture. I pray you continue and finish well in Jesus name.

@Mike Winger

This was so good, Mike. It is almost like swapping a true biblical principle for an empty philosophical one. We dont make worlds we submit to God's way, whether or not we receive the result we hope for. ❤

Mike Winger nailed it in another vid. He said why do some Christians see right thru false teachers and others fall for the false teaching. It's because they too lust for the riches, power and wealth that the false teacher is promising.

Osteen rubs shoulders with Oprah. That's a huge red flag right there.

So nice to hear this. My FiL who espouses many radical spiritual beliefs loves The Secret: Dare to Dream, and believes whole heartedly in the sort of manifesting reality from positive thoughts philosophy the movie centers around. I watched the movie once and filed it away under "Pagan Nonsense" in my head. People want to believe in this crap, because it lets them feel like they have more control over this world than they do, and thus makes it less scary, and allows them to sidestep their need for God. It's a deceptively hard thing to swallow your pride, acknowledge that you are weak and broken, and that you need Christ and surrender your fears, worries, and doubts to him. Most of us will struggle with it our entire lives, and concepts like the power of words is just another warm empty lie we can turn to when we should be turning to God.

Thank you for exposing the truth (and the lies) about this. I have friends and some relatives who believe very strongly that they can "speak their future into existence."
I believe that you said it right.

I grew up with this type of thinking and as I’ve actively quested after God I’ve come to realize I can’t control God, he’s not a magical genie in the sky. I can ask for things from God but I’ve notice the way I ask has changed also. When I actively seek God my thinking starts to fall more into line with God and the things I ask for have become different. I’m a work in progress but I’ve abandon prosperity gospel for the riches of my savior Jesus Christ and I’m at peace.

My dad abused the crap out of this kind of thinking that the words of a person have soooo much power and would try and put fear in me and my family cause of it. Lots of abuse can come when you totally miss the point of God's word and think you are doing the "right" thing and drill it into you kids.

I almost laughed out loud in a quiet office when you said speak over yourself "I can fly and see if you remain in the air!!!" 😂😂😂😂

After I got saved initially the first church, I went to taught that about words. God spoke the Universe into existence, and we can do the same thing because of how powerful our words are. It never really sat well within my spirit, so I eventually left that church.
