when just out of the green but in the rough i square the 8 face 90° like a putter, feet together and ball about a half a foot behind both feet

I like toe down chipping makes it easy once your that close to the green

If you do all of this and just keep 90% off your weight on your lead foot you shouldn’t have a problem with your wedge. But definitely don’t want feet together. Place lead foot back a little.

Never understood people who use 8 irons in this situation. This is like perfect situation for classic 60 or 56 chip shot. You may feel confident hitting it but there is no way accuracy on that shot is anywhere near if you used a 60.
