How to Install Shelf Standards and Brackets Correctly - Quick Tips

Installing metal standards in shelf brackets like these is a great way to get a little extra storage space in your home. However, getting these shelves level can be a little tricky. So here's a quick tip for you. First, mount one standard on the wall making sure that it's plumb with a level. Now you wanna make sure when you drive your screws in to drive them at least an inch and a half into the wall stud. Next install a shelf bracket into your first standard. Then take a second standard and install a shelf bracket into it also making sure that it's in the same corresponding slot as the first bracket already on the wall. Then just scoot your standard over making sure that it's in place, then take a level and lay it across the top of both of the brackets. Now just move this standard up and down until it reads level. Now you're ready to drive in the screws for the second standard. Now that you have both of your standards installed perfectly level and plumb, all you have to do is install your shelf brackets and now your shelf will be perfectly level also.

1:00 if you can, use Torx screws. They dont get destroyed that easy.

Is it normal for the brackets to move around after you hammer ?

This looks too easy, surely you can't just drive the screw straight in to the wall like that? Don't you need to mark all the holes and insert rawl plugs first?.... By which time everything has gone very slightly off-level (if you're me! 😩).... I need to see the whole process, I am capable of botching even the seemingly simplest jobs! ☹️

She seems to be in a garage space or similar, and the stud locations are visible where the stucco or plaster pattern visibly changes slightly. Bad mud job really.

Normally use a stud finder first, where each planned standard will be installed, and mark the locations also using the level but vertically to mark the vertical studs.
