How much does a garbage truck driver make? It all depends on the location and cost of living.

1. Someone that lives in Texas, starting pay will be around low 20s to mid 20s to high 20s depending on the cost of living.

Someone that lives in California or New York where it is a much higher cost of living, will make low 30s to high 30s.

So it all depends on where you live! Stop listening to marketing that just throws a random salary without mentioning any locations or cost of livings. They’re just trying to sell you something. If it was that easy, everybody would be doing it.

2. It depends on who you work for. Do you work for a local government or a business? There’s usually higher pay in business than in government, however in government there’s usually a better benefits package in regards to insurance.

3. Size of company and how much work. The bigger the company, the more work there is, the smaller it is the less work there is, however it also depends on how big routes are and how spread apart they are. Of course this equates to more OT. The employer will let you know.

These are just some of the factors that effect the overall pay that you’re looking for.

If in Texas, anywhere from 45000 to 90000 sounds about right.
