Here's a thought: God is claimed to be tri-omni (all knowing, all powerful and all good), and god is also claimed to have created the universe as well as heaven and hell. This means that god is capable of creating the perfect place (heaven) already, so why this sadistic game of hide and seek, creating us tainted with sin, sacrificing himself as the son to himself as the father to then still demand that we believe and worship him so after death we go to heaven and if not, eternal damnation in hell? Why not just do away with the universe and hell and just keep heaven?

Is it more likely that there is such a supposed benevolent god that plays these sadistic games with us or is it more likely that through our self awareness and fear of death, we made up a story to curb our fear of the unknown?

My actions have significance, no gods required, no heaven or hell required either.

I now understand why Christopher Hitchens thought so little of his brother, Peter.

The problem is that once you leave you'd have to deal with those who are still a part of the faith or lingering thoughts that were formed. A god that claims to be love itself yet dehumanises nonbelievers is no loving god and is it surprising people will act so irrationally and even worse?

They don't need a god. Any promise of not dying will do. They are not concerned with life meaning. They just want to "Don't get dead."

I had such a weird relation to Hell, as a Christian I knew I was saved I did not care, but it meant people I saw thousands of them would burn if I left.

It is still painful for many Christians and even a few atheists still fear it to some degree. I don't care about the fictional pain I care about the pain people actually feel.

You can see it in the Peter Hitchens clip, yeah Peter I _don't_ want to live in that world, and I _can't_ you appear to but I can't even if I wanted to.

Here's a question I ask those who are afraid of Hell:

Can your god create someone who is _more loving, more forgiving, more logical, more moral, more mature, more sensible, more pragmatic, more imaginative, more merciful, more just, more empathetic, more compassionate_ than itself?

Their own belief in the nature of their gods precludes the possibility of an eternity in Hell, but because they've been brainwashed, Doublethink is active, *so they believe two contradictory ideas simultaneously.*

I think God is a monster. He stands by and watches people of all ages get raped and murdered but he does nothing to stop it while claiming how powerful he is. Instead he will wait for justice instead of halting these terrible actions before or while they’re happening. That is about as immoral as one can get.

Reality isn't a "want" state but an "is" state. A person or groups wants & feels don't change what is observed as true.

Christians value a fear of God. I was more afraid of being visited by an angry angel in the middle of the night, or God himself, than eternal torment in Hell.

a loving god has no interest in punishment..in fact god/s possibly do not even exist.

While I have faced many fears in confronting my doubts (fear of rejection by my community and family, disappointing them, causing them personal anguish), Hell was never one of them. In retrospect, that should have been a clue that I had lost the ability to believe in Hell, and by extension the tenets of my faith, well before I was able to admit it to myself. I fear Hell about as much as I fear walking into a fairy ring, being seduced by literal sirens' songs, or being attacked by werewolves and vampires; which is to say, I have no fear at all. It is just a ridiculous, make-believe idea.

I think my dad has the opposite problem: I don't think he believes in Hell, but I think he's unable to detach himself from the idea that there's a Heaven. He deeply loves his parents and I'm sure believes them both to be, well, "somewhere." It would be tough to accept that he's never going to see them again. I don't think it's about his own immortality so much as a desire to be reunited with those who are gone. The pull of that is strong, at least for those who are strongly attached to people who have died; I suppose if your parents kind of sucked, you wouldn't be as eager for them to come back.

There is a short article that can be accessed on line titled: ‘Is Hell Real’ by Stephan Freeman. It offers the apostolic Christian view of hell that is not at all the depiction of western or more modern doctrines.

Peace to all!

If I truly expressed my feelings and lack of belief my wife would leave me. Or at the very least it would turn our marriage into dorm roommates.

God in his wisdom appears through a burning bush thousands of years ago to a man in the middle of the desert and conveys his message. But now with the technology to reach everyone on the planet he is shy to talk to us? My thinking is gonna burn me in hell.

59. Nothing prevents Us from sending miracles, except that the ancients denied them. And We gave Thamood the female camel, an eye-opener, but they mistreated her. We do not send signs, except to instill reverence.
60. We told you that your Lord encompasses humanity. We did not make the vision that We showed you, except as a test for the people, and the Cursed Tree in the Quran. We frighten them, but it only increases them in defiance.

As a Christian I never feared hell because I never feared God's judgement as unfair. Hell is not a big topic in religion as people assume: Even the New Testament does not give much details about it. There are very conservative religions that don't have hell, such as Jehovah Witnesses, and yet they are high control religions.
