I had a neighbour that had 12 points on his provisional. Within 2 months of passing his test on the 4th attempt he gained another 3 points. How the hell he didn't lose his licence I don't know.

I have to admit I drove for 7 years without a licence, Van's cars trucks but when I went self employed in 92 I applied for a test, had no lessons and passed no problem, had no points since eithrr and driven all over uk france and spain in converted buses and motorhomes.
I was lucky to have not got caught and wouldn't advise it to anyone, was a very silly thing to do.

Thank you for doing this one.
Just a reminder that if you get caught speeding during a driving lesson, it's not the instructor that gets the points! Although we of course have a duty of care to advise learners if they are exceeding the limit or breaking any other rules.

Just a little additional info. When a new driver licence is revoked, the points are not cleared, but will be applied to the new licence when issued. So when the next test is passed, the points will still be there, so every new offence will cancel the licence again.
Took a lad to test with already 9 points on his provisional, all gained before I met him. He was disappointed to find them still there after passing.
Met a lad who had borrowed his Mum's car the day before his 2 year anniversary, got caught with two illegal tyres, 3 points each, licence cancelled. Remember your Show/Tell questions and check the car over, don't assume the owner has done so.

Riding unathorised electric scooters in a public area may incur 6 points, on a future licence. Alongside, a £300 fine and the electronic scooter being confiscated.

Thanks for clearing this up for me as too many people don't actually know but say things that are obviously not true as I found no information online suggesting that what they said was factual.

The way I drove, when first learning to drive, should have been enough to ban me for life. Scared the shit out of my instructor who did not like me taking bends at around 50mph. E those were the days

My ex wife got three points as the owner of a van having a bald tyre when she had no licence at all and wasn't intending to get one
For some strange reason though we were joint owners, they took her to court and not me.

The 11/12 points on the provisional or the 5/6 points in the first two years are they as discretionary as the 12 point total on a normal full licence? Quite a few people driving with more than 12 points.

I was caught driving with no insurance but at the time had a provisional. I then passed my test about 3 months later and now hold a full driving licence. However I now received the driving offences. Will this be attached to my provisional ? I do not want to get my licence revoked.

Also worth bearing in mind that the qualified driver supervising a learner can also be held responsible for numerous offences - examples of this will include use of handheld mobile devices, which is forbidden when supervising a learner ; also the act of exiting a car and leaving the learner unsupervised can attract penalties for both the learner and the supervisor, and since the supervisor is legally in charge of the vehicle they can be held responsible for any offences committed by the learner under their supervision - in fact both can be charged or held responsible, especially in the event of any collisions or injuries caused by the learner under their supervision .

So, someone riding a motorcycle under a cbt certificate and a provisional licence can get 2 more speeding fines than a new driver who's more qualified?

A friend got banned on his provisional.
Swore for about two years then got his licence so he could get banned properly.

A few quick questions for your American audience. How long is a provisional license good for? If it has an expiration can it be renewed? Do full licenses need to be renewed? How often?

In my younger years I amassed 96 points before I even held a provisional

Good evening Daniel, I trust this message finds you well. Not withstanding that you don’t watch much TV, I noticed on Channel 5 “Mororway Cops” and caught the tail end with the commentator saying “our driving skills are in reverse” and referenced dash cam footage bringing people to book (I know you have one too)
I believe we have all touched on this subject before, however, it is current and clearly, not getting any better.
Enjoy the remainder of your evening.

Can you answer if the police have the right to remove your keys from the ignition on a stop

Yes? I once knew a yob who reckoned he had been banned from driving aged 15 for nicking cars and joyriding.

Dunno how true this was.

Since by default a provisional license driver has to be supervised, presumably giving tuition is there a comeback on the supervisor? Obviously the driver can ignore instructions and put the pedal to the metal so to speak but in a registered driving school car with dual controls where the instructor has control of at least the clutch and brake pedals then speeding should not be an issue and therefore careless or dangerous driving would seem a most likely offence. Obviously the actual driver must take responsibility for their driving behaviour but in my mind this raises the question of instructor competence. So to sum up the driver is responsible for their own actions but can the instructor also be penalised depending on the actual motoring offence?

Hi, how does a novice get his driver license back after disqualification as a result of penalty points? Does he have to pass the test again ? after waiting for 6 months?
